Temperature increase during FSD Charging

Hey! I've not noticed this before but I've just bought a Type6 and when I charge my FSD, my temperature goes up from 50% to 90-100%. I've never noticed anything similar in my Sidewinder, Adder, Cobra or Hauler. If it helps, I've:

PowerPlant C3
Thrusters E4
FSD D4
PowerDist C3
Cargo 96T
...with power showing 7.72 MW retracted/deployed (I've no guns) and 10.0 MW available.

Any reason this is happening?

P.S. As an aside, on Modules/Priority, is there any reason I can't set my Cargo to be priority 2 or 3 (it's 1 currently), and my Basic Discovery Scanner to be priority 1 or 3 (it's 2 currently)?

Same here, got a mostly factory fresh Type 6 and it goes over 100% when charging, not a big deal really but yeah, odd.

Yes - this is normal on an out-of-the-box type 6 - it will go away with an upgraded power plant, but its nothing to worry about, as you won't get damage unless temp rises to 150% - just make sure you're well away from any stars when you engage FSD

Typically Lakon. The ASP is the only Lakon who stays cool, all the others are CMDR Cookers. That said, they can handle the heat pretty well, so there isn't a problem.

The reason for heating up, is because all vents (that radiate heat) must be closed in order to be able to jump.

I'll think you'll find if you upgrade your FSD it'll sort itself out.

I have changed to an A4 FSD with an A2 Powerplanrt and D3 Power Distribution and the temps peak at around 90% during a jump.

Happens on all ships. You can greatly reduce the heating by getting a better power plant (heat efficiency is indicated by a letter F -> A). Also avoid initiating a jump when you're too close to a star, wait a few seconds to go away from it before charging your FSD. Remember ships only start losing health when heat goes beyond 130% so you should be fine anyway.

Good point, forgot about that...

Since you can't always avoid this, buy a heatsink launcher when you have a fuel scoop. When you are interdicted while scooping, things start to get complicated. Or you fight the interdiction and might dive straight into the star, or you submit. When you submit, the fun starts when you killed the interdictor. You submitted into a hot environment and as soon as you charge the drive to get into SC, the ships temp goes up like a rocket. In this case, heat sink launchers can save your ship, and they cost almost nothing.

You can also shut-down everything you don't need to jump into SC to minimise your heat in this type of situation, it'll help!

Yeah, heat management in a stock Type-6 sucks. It's by far the worst craft I've flown for it (up to an Asp so far). But they do all heat up when you engage the FSD. Better modules help.

True, if you are not too close to the star, it will help. Once I tried to fight a interdiction but drove into the star and was pulled out of SC because I came too close. Once your ship is at 92% heat because of the environment alone, there is not much you can switch off to get a lower temp. :)

It's normal and happens on all ships. when you charge your FSD you have to have all heat vents closed on your ship (happens automatically), in the same way that landing gear/cargo scoop/hardpoints need to be retracted.

With the vents closed there is no way to dissipate the heat build up so the temp rises.
