Well the other benefit I've noticed is all the green dots on the radar. Now I really know when someone is coming round to interdict me!!! And yes, I've seen 50k hauling missions too.

Understanding Reputation?

I've a question for the board in general and any devs who might be able to explain this.

After a string of errors, crashes, and of course the Great Kerfuffle last week, my reputation with the Federation went to 'Unfriendly.' Now, I've done a lot of Fed-friendly missions since. I've been careful to do missions only for Fed-aligned subfactions. I've done quite a lot to the point where several subfactions consider me 'Allied.' However, the Federation as a whole is Unfriendly to me still, despite all the missions I've done, and any time I go to a new system, the stations there call me 'outsider.'

Now, weirdly, this hasn't prevented the Feds from offering me rank-up missions! I've gone from Recruit to Midshipman to Petty Officer* all while the Feds are Unfriendly. In the 'Unavailable Missions' list I'm starting to see the Beta Hydri permit and 'kill many pirates' missions though I can't take them yet since the Feds don't trust me.

I have a few questions about this. At what point should I start wondering if my reputation with the Feds is bugged? In trying to get the missions from the Fed Navy and Federal Black Ops factions, do they rely upon Federation reputation? If so, how can I actually get those missions? What happened to my overall rep, and is there a way I can recover it other than going to EVERY subfaction in Federation space and making them overjoyed to see me when I frame-shift in and ask for docking clearance? Is there a clear description of Reputation in E:D anywhere?

Thanks in advance!

* ETA: Oh my gods as a former servicemember and a military history buff the rank structure of the Federation makes me gnash my teeth! >_<

So again the same thing was happening. I eventually took a look at the factions and saw that there are 2 times the same faction:

Is this intended or a bug?

Hi. I had this early in the game, and it took quite a while for my Federation rep to go from Unfriendly to Neutral, but it did eventually, in which time I got to Lt Commander, which I suspect is the highest you can get to for the moment? At least, I have had no more Naval Progression stuff since, and I am either neutral, friendly or allied with sub factions. IMHO the reputation aspect of the game is a bit over complex, but that's just me. I don't think it is bugged, you will eventually get back to neutral I should think.

Looks like a bug to me fella, I also received my summons to Summerland but left after a couple of missions as something killed my rep with the empire. I'm back again and will be working in the area, I'll see if I come across the same issue. Wouldn't hurt to ticket it.

See you in space maybe, my CMDR name is same as user.

Same thing happened to me last night several times, I even did a rank up mission for the empire, but yet on the side panel I was showing the red down arrow...

Thanks for the reply and information! I won't worry about it much, then, and just keep grinding. =)

Also, I think the next rank above Lt. Commander is Post Commander...

People are so hasty to call something a bug....
Nope. Not a bug. Well kind of.
There are TWO factions called Patron's Priciples in Summerland. Check system status or scroll up on System Map.
You did a mission for one, and the other one didn't like it.

Yes I've noticed myself that being allied with "Citizens Forum" or "Imperial Society" in one system does not necessarily mean you are allied with an identically named faction elsewhere.

Sometimes they have different descriptions in the info box so you can tell, but it seems like it needs fixed.

For example Patron's Principles seems to be a widespread faction so gaining rep with them would presumably be very useful but it's not clear to me that they are actually the same faction everywhere.
The example in this thread of two in the same system suggests they aren't, so i'm not inclined to run a load of missions for status in just one place. Unless it's a wealthy high-pop high-tech economy of course!

Universal Cartographics reputation

Dear Explorers,

Would you not like to see your hard won data put to better use, or at least better recognition?

How about a faction rep for Universal Cartographics (not sure this would achieve as a faction bonus but for RP purposes it would be pretty cool) alternatively faction boost relating to the owner of the station you sell your data in?

Your thoughts.....?

Given the the universal nature of Universal Cartographics, we can assume that it's managed by the Pilot's Federation so, yeah, there's scope for faction rep there. Given everything else FD need to build up, though, I doubt we'd see it anytime soon.

Raise independent Reputation w/o Ind. Station?

Hello

I am sitting in a nice Federation Controlled System and get offered well paid Mission from Station, which Owning Corporation belongs to Federation.
Delivery Target for said mission is an Independent Corporation (Right hand Tab is saying so), but they dont trust me enough, i am neutral to them Independants and Allied to Federation and Corporations.
How can i Raise Independent Reputation, if that Independant Coporation has no own Station in my System? If i visit an Independant Solar System the Corporation there has different name of course, and my Right hand Tab in Cokpit does not display Independant as a Faction, so i guess it does not help to fly for independant Corporations other than the one Corporation i want to raise in my System. (Like Getting Federation to Allied makes Corporations i never met, green to me).

Any advice?

Greetings

if there are any other stations in the system check to see if you can get missions from them there , if not just keep trading in that system to see if that gains their trust .

Not all missions, in a station, are offered by the owning faction. Check the faction offering the mission before accepting as there can be factions from neighboring systems offering missions in any given stations.

Reputation consequences for interactions with players as well as NPC

For example.

Player A is friendly with Sirius Cyberdogs

Player B is allied with Sirius Cyberdogs.

Player B should show green for Player A, and have the highest local faction rank for that zone displayed as their faction.

Player A takes a reputation hit with Sirius Cyberdogs for destroying Player B.

Please discuss

How much reputation do you lose for firing on a police vehicle...

...as a opposed to completing one mission for a faction?

Are they comparable? Or is the ratio different, does anyone know?
