That Fer de lance, though!

Yes I remember from the C64 instruction manual it was refered to be a high tec bounty hunter ship. I always saw it as a larger ship designed for combat. was expecting, in this itteration of Elite, for it to be large sized, a super heavu fighter, like a python with limited cargo space, but good shields and armour, and a decent jump range.

After watering my mouth with a design that i appreciate, i hope that ZP this time will feature a combat oriented high visibility cockpit,
along with something that is worthy of being called de or acceleration.

Based on the size of the gear covers, and the rear hatch, it looks small. really small. Maybe like the Lotus Elise of the Elite universe? Tiny but packs a punch? Something like the eagle but maybe a bit higher-end.

After looking at some of the old models from previous games, I do think it would have been neat to keep the single-engine kinda look, but i can see how this is a bit more practical. having two engines flanking a center cargo/internal compartment is a lot more efficient. Still, the former would be an interesting variation.

Looks bigger to the Cobra to me.

This game is full of Doritoes...

I REALLY like the look of the eagle.. as its one of the few non triangles in the game.. and i really like the fact you can actualy see your ships wings out the window..

This just looks like a 3035 model of the adder to me..

Its nice dont get me wrong, but wish there was a bit more veriety in ships then "do you want a fat or thin triangle" regardless of them trying to stick with the basic concept shaped from the original

Look at the hatch on the right side of the image. That hatch is very large compared to the size of the ship. Much larger, relatively, than the Cobra. Closer to the size of the hatch relative to an eagle or sidewinder. Just above the hatch appears to be something that looks like a couple rungs of a ladder, possibly to allow access to the top of the ship, or maybe it's partially stowed (could be something else entirely, of course)

I'm still thinking it's small. I could be wrong, though :)

Was just about to post a similar thread.... I CAN NOT WAIT for this ship.... When the Adder hit the field, I started figuring that perhaps ZP would have a few other selections available besides an explorer and a trader. Now it seems that they're about to have a medium sized addition.

It looks to be at least double the size of the adder (assuming my sense of scale is correct looking at the viewscreen), perhaps even larger, and will have MUCH better visibility than either of its ZP sister ships.

The first concept art that truly i don't like it.

basically it's a bigger version of the adder/hauler ship.
why they called ''fer de lance'' when it has nothing to match with that name ? it's a mistery for me.

After all those months waiting for the official concept of this mighty ship now i am pretty disappointed by the choice.

but, above it all, why they continue with these ''space shuttle'' designs.. ?

sorry, i don't like it at all.

Here's a picture that shows both of the Eagle's hatches. The "back door" in the rear of the ship, and the main cargo hatch. Since the fer-de-lance doesn't show an undercarriage hatch, perhaps the cargo hatch IS mounted on the rear of the ship. If it's the "back door" then this thing is SUPER tiny. Probably a cargo hatch though. Which still puts this thing as smaller than the Eagle.

Of course, these are style concepts, and might not yet be to scale.

The Fer De Lance is built by the Zorgon Peterson Group, same manufacturer as the Hauler and the Adder. Seems they've defined the "space shuttle" aesthetic as the defining characteristic of that manufacturer. Personally, I think it's a nice touch that sets one manufacturer apart from another.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone else noticed that there appear to be TWO canopies on this ship?
a much smaller dark-shaded one forward of the Gold-screen (presumably the "bridge")....
If its not, I'm going crazy... (but wouldnt this just throw your sense of scale out of whack?)

I like it!

That long nose suggests all the pew pew is at the pointy end. If that's the case, and she's a ship in the Cobra's size range, I'll be flying her.
