Overheating Lakon

Hi!

I now have a Lakon Type 6 with a upgraded jumpdrive. Unfortunately it overheats after every jump.

Is there anything I can upgrade or equip in order to avoid this? I allready tried heatsink launcher, but that does not help.

until you can afford the upgrades you can disable shields (or even run without them). Shields keep the ship cosy, snug and warm!

In addition to the power plant upgrade, switching off any unused modules will keep the overall temp of the ship down.

You'll only take damage when you reach 150% heat. Just ignore the warning, you should be well within safe tolerances.

From my purely anecdotal experience, rate of wear and tear seems to be affected below 150% heat, even if hull and module damage don't happen until this point.

just don't get too close to a sun and get knocked out of supercruise, else you might see 300% heat i did :)

nothing to see here .....move along lol

I take it you have never flown a Lakon? a stock ship gets very hot, this slows down the whole jump process. The difference between a stock power plant and upgraded one is being to charge the drive at 100% heat, as opposed to waiting for the heat to drop to 60% or lower. The Type-7 is the worst, with a stock power plant it will go over 150% every time unless you move well away from the star and allow the ship to cool.

Yeah, many ships can stand much heat, especially the haulers. If it goes a bit above 100%, there is no reason to panic.

I have a type-6 and can easily get far enough away from the star in the time it takes for the FSD to cool down after a jump. Heck sometimes I'll even trigger my Cobra's FSD while still scooping fuel!

Been a long time since I flew the Type-6, for sure the Type-7 is a pain to keep cool. Cobra's fine, the issue is with the big ships

When scooping I regularly get the MK3 up to about 130% without too much damage. Actually scooping is a good way to establish you ships heat tolerances

You don't need to keep the same class power plant as stock either. I was running something ridiculous like a A2 power plant in my Type 7. It had enough total power for all the modules, much better heat efficiency plus it weighed alot less for a better jump range.
If its a trading ship you can really strip it down, check every module for weight and power savings; cargo bays don't use much power. Of course i did remove the shields to achieve such power savings, but that flying garbage can never overheated again and earned a ton of credits.

when I am in my type 6's they run hot when scooping even with A class power supplies, but a nice cool 44% normally :) I will push the temp to 130% when I am scooping at high speed (circling the star) and usually about 110 - 120% when I am scooping at 30km/s but then I am pushing the numbers on the scoop as far as I am comfortable with to make the scooping take less time...

The only time I have had hull damage with them was coming into a backwater system with multiple suns close together and I got dropped out of SC immediately after entering the system (within 5 seconds) and temps rose very quickly to over 150%, always carry heatsinks... I dropped a sink and was about to bring it around and had to wait for FSD cooldown then dropped another sink and began to spool up the FSD, was able to get out of there thankfully intact and with the cargo unharmed :)

Stock type7 overheats very quickly. Better power plant with better heat efficiency helps. FSD activation doesn't go above 97% with a B rating PP.

Never experienced that in a type6, has been a while since I sold it.

Heh, I consider the overheating in a Lakon as a feature! You could fry eggs on the dash :D

LMAO! I just go the picture of converting my 'G-damn' overheating L6 to a roach coach. ROFL, park my L6 lunch truck right outside a station or outpost and cook eggs on the hull for all the hungry commanders flying in.... Too funny!
