Newcomer / Intro Extremely frustrated, feel like I've wasted my time and money

So, I've had this game for about four days. In that time, I have spent about 16 hours flying around aimlessly, searching for mission targets. I have also spent considerably less time getting griefed by other players. Twice now I have lost 40k credits (once in vouchers, once in ship value) getting blasted by another player after we both attacked the same wanted NPC.

Just now, I spent a full hour tooling around, popping in and out of "unidentified signal source" nodes, following hints from other NPCs, and when I get to the target of the mission, I get one-shotted by it.

This game has a long-long way to go to make itself accessible to new players. I've already wasted my $60, but i can and will make sure none of my friends do the same.

There is no hand holding in ED, it's got a steep learning curve, and is just not for some. But putting others off because its not for you is a bit lame.

Honestly man, I agree with you, this game isn't new player friendly at all. There are a couple very basic tutorials on combat and flying and stuff like that, but nothing on what to do once you get in-game. I feel your pain, on the loss of your ship, I've lost mine through stupid stuff as well, like coming out of an interdiction and slamming into another NPC, or something as silly as being burned by the sun, or crashing during docking. I would recommend Solo play or Private Play to get a bit adapted to the game.
E.D is what you make it I guess, you can either be a Courier, Miner, Bounty Hunter, Pirate or w.e. However the tools that instruct you how to get started in these trades are missing, you kind of have to find them yourself.

Anyway, best of luck!

I've been killed 6 or 7 times from day 1 all because I was trying too much too early... Those big assassin missions are impossible for a newbie... a sidewinder with standard guns can only really kill other sidewinders or a hauler .. Take missions that mean exploring in fairly safe systems, collecting black boxes etc..have a look around and you will find valuables to sell...I felt hopeless too but am now up to a viper and can kill most and if I can't its fast enough to leave pronto...:)

That's a real shame, because some of your friends might actually really enjoy the game. Its one thing to tell your friends that you didn't enjoy it, and explain why, but another things to tell them not to buy it. How about letting your friends decide for themselves. And hey! If you are not playing, get your friends round to try it out for themselves. They might agree with you, or they may just say you are a complete fool and tell you how much they love the game.

You've said it yourself there, the answer is in your question - Only 16 Hours in 4 Days and Aimlessly????

sorry mate, some of us work for a living. After sixteen hours of in-game time (which is, by the way, the entirety of my off-duty time since i made the purchase) I am still stuck with the starting ship, starting gear, and zero credits because missions are hard to come by, user-unfriendly, and laden with griefer players and lolwut oneshot NPCs, I call that a waste. I don't expect the game to hold my hand, I spend most of my free time flying in DCS; I know how to manage a difficult game. But there is a difference between not holding the players hand, and dropping them in a forest filled with bear traps and saying "have fun".

Yes, I also had to go back and watch the vids and check the wiki for a few things...and also practice my dogfighting in the training modules. it's a bit odd to have to do that, I agree.

And by all means, PLAY IN SOLO MODE until you feel comfortable enough. There will still be NPC's trying to interdict you but at least you don't have to worry about griefers.

There is a lot to learn , its a challenge...would you be happy if you could start with a powerful ship ?

hell no, I just want to be able to accomplish a mission without spending my entire evening flying around waiting for the correct "unknown signal" to appear. I would like to know, also, if the mission i am considering accepting is out of my league, given my current ship and loadout. I would like not to lose the 40k credits of bounty vouchers i have earned over the entire evening because some dipstick is butthurt that i killed a bounty before he did, and decides to take it out on my hide.

Seriously, you drop a line about DCS and then talk about being dropped in a forest with bear traps? Come on man, beef up there, grow a pair. Look about, yep thats right, thousands here already who have walked 'exactly' the very same path you are walking. They've survived, they excelled, they've had and are having fun. Elite, like DCS Warthog for example is not about holding your hand and giving you insta-results. DCS, like Elite here is about taking your time and learning the ropes, learning to walk before you can run. (You DCS pilot should know this!) If you are truly having issues, go solo online mode until you've got your head and your skills around things. Tell you what you don't do, is come to the forums and whine about how difficult things are, especially when there are thousands of your peers here who are not having your issues. Expect little sympathy when you seemingly can't be bothered to learn the ropes, yet are willing to whine. Anyway, good luck with your path, lets hope you toughen up a tad DCS pilot.

:D

Go SOLO MODE.

DCS might have a level of complexity in the same class as this game, but it also has documentation and procedure (packaged with it) to match. I have never, not even once, had the problem in DCS of arriving on-station and being forced to loiter for three hours waiting for the target to appear...

yes it is a bit brutal in anarchy systems?? I started bounty hunting in fed systems where fed police are at the USS killing pirates and I come in and finish them off....big bucks and the police leave you alone....

As I and others have said here, and you seemingly keep wishing to ignore, go solo mode! Learn the ropes, move forward from there. Right now, you will find hundreds here who are not having your issues, why is that you think? You're ... somehow ... special? Or maybe they ... have just learnt the ropes and are excelling at the game? Oh and what's with the subtle threat?

I've already wasted my $60, but i can and will make sure none of my friends do the same.

Seriously, seriously? Tell you what? Frustrated you maybe, but thats the wrong attitude right there to gel with people who are already enjoying the game. You want help, fine, but don't come across with an attitude like that and expect sympathy or assistance.
