A note to the half-wits in game using Seig as a codeword...

A little history lesson for you in these rather strained times.... http://goo.gl/5JHsHa

The use of Sieg and the reply Heil is almost as distasteful and objectionable as the use of guns by people 'defending' religion as shown in Paris in recent days... It is also a criminal offence to use the salute in Germany, Austria, Sweden and several other countries.

The two words were used in 1930's/40's Germany to hail members of the National Socialist German Worker's Party in Germany. This in itself is enough to make it objectionable to many who believe in freedom and democracy and rights for everyone... Let's not forget the reasons we are able to say what we wish and do what we wish (within the bounds of taste, decency, legality and reason) and what went before that firstly reminded us of these basic freedoms and the pain that many people went through to earn those freedoms for us and those in the future.

I sincerely hope that anyone who sees this behaviour in-game screenies it and posts the screenshot to Frontier as an example of a breach of reasonable and decent behaviour. Go on... root these half-wits out people, this behaviour has no place in any decent society...

PS : It's dead obvious what the response to the challenge will be so you're not really making yourselves very 'secret' to be honest...

PPS : They've changed it to Kaiser apparently... Just as bad and just as obvious! Bill.... (or Wilhelm)

Don't see anything wrong with this.

Except the spelling.

If people want to greet each other in another language, who cares? The only problem I would have with this is if they are also referencing Hitler and spewing anti semitic garbage at the same time.

I think you are looking into it a bit much. I havent seen it used by anyone yet but it doesn't offend me unless they are actually portraying nazis or any other extremists. Blow their sorry butts out of the sky.

Slippery slope... and the moment it becomes 'acceptable' is when the problems start....

They don't. These guys are adding a great player content with their role playing.
I'm after them to hunt them down like many others but there are always some simple minded snowflakes on here who can't understand the meaning or roleplaying.

Hail the emperor. Never surrender !

Thank you. I am bothered by this as well, it's really just distasteful. And I am not usually the sensitive kind of guy when it comes to language.

So what about the empires "Hail" ?
that is the exact same word in english . "Heil" is only the german version of it. Nothing wrong here.

It actually translates as 'Hail Victory' but the point is its associations in the past and, in some contexts, the present. It's a criminal offence to use it in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for starters and all it takes is for one very annoyed German to complain and all hell will break loose... Additionally, it's the thin end of the wedge... if it becomes acceptable then the lines become very blurred and troubled... look at the terminology applied to some ethnicities where some are 'owning' a particular word which now causes all sorts of trouble because some people seeing it being used see it as being acceptable when there are still many people out there who find it objectionable and distressing... it's all about context and about sensitivity; remember that... People do still get offended by these terms and there are very good reasons for that being the case....

Explain to me how one incurs a ban using two simple, non profane words. Jesus. People are dumb.

Nah.. I don't answer something as obvious. Use your brain..

Yes, there is something wrong here. It's about the context. "Hail" in English may refer to many things whereas "Heil" in German really only has one connotation and that's Hitler and N.a.z.i Germany.

If they switch to hailing you with Kaiser in game I find it hard to comprehend your problem. Unless you are seriously misunderstanding the real world history.

I should think the emperor they reference is that of the in-game Empire... as in Hail the Emperor...

But I guess that might offend some people who associate themselves with those who were trampled by roman boots...
