Wolf Mk II as an Alliance faction ship?

We need Alliance ships (well and Alliance everything really), so why not? What is the exact background on the Wolf Mk II though? I've only been able to find this info from Oolite:

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Wolf_Mk.2_(Oolite)

I can't see which faction (Federal/Imperial/Alliance) it belongs too from that? And also i'll add a link to this thread (that you also posted in) as it has some more info on the ship that might be handy for people to mull over. I also like the idea of your Mk I version :)

We need more ships for sure, and it would be nice to see some Alliance specific ones in the mix.

The Wolf never really had much background info attached to it (except in Oolite). I wonder if any of the 16bit Elites came with a proper ship guide - I haven't seen any online, at least.

But that merely means that it is free of previous ties and could easily be repurposed as an Alliance ship and it would give the faction something unique of their own - stuff that it sorely needs.

Yes MORE Alliance ships!

No the 16bit Elites didn't have anything beyond a redone version of the original BBC Elite guide and that only covered the ships in the original BBC release. The Wolf MkII's "official" back story is something of a mystery, given its small size, durability and power. In the Amiga and ST Elite games, the Wolf MkII was a little below a Thargoid Battleship in terms of toughness.

Elite Dangerous would benefit from having a few really tough mid to small sized military style vessels like the Wolf MkII or Constrictor to give a bit more choice when it comes to bleeding edge combat vessel. Something more combat focused than an Asp, similar size, more punching power, less cargo space. I don't imagine it would be hugely difficult to code a ship that had the same internal slot layout as an Asp, but was prevented from buying any cargo spaces.

I think it would be better if ED had multiple ship choices within every class. At this point, you have just a single option mostly. There needs to be more ships of similar stats with just small variation in looks and performace, so it would be interesting to go around and look for different versions of some ships, especially if they were also rare.

Wolf Mk2

Yes i agree a wolf mk 2 would be an nice addition to the other ships and fast too.:D

would'nt you just love a ship like this:D

Well we certainly should see the Constrictor at some point, it is a near perfect 'Pirate' ship for the PvP game, and roll play purposes for those type of players. The Asp is a little large (and multipurpose) for that imho.

I could see the Wolf coming out of the Alliance area of space, in those versions of the game it did appear, it was often around the Thargoid ships (not always), and in that region of space (iirc). I suppose it could have been a secret project by the Alliance maybe in relation to the proximity of the Thargoid threat to there region?

My fading memory seems to be telling me that the Wolf quite often turned up fighting alongside Thargoids or did I make that up? Was there not a rumour that it contained some Thargoid technology as well?
.
I like rumours, this games needs some. Rumours of secret military ships, vague sightings, information for sale on the bulletin board that sort of thing.

A lovely ship, is the Wolf MkII...

In most versions with the full shipset, the Wolf MkII can be occasionally encountered. It is a lone trader with a very powerful weapon and shields
at least as strong as a thargoid's. Peaceful unless attacked, it is a fearsome foe.

Made a small sig image to show my support to the ship - feel free to use it if you wish. ;)

... worth remembering that with a 120px height images, you can have only one text line!

Reckon I'll take my Oolite Wolf MKII out for a spin tonight to show my support - kinda! <grins>

I don't know what the Wolf MK II is, and I don't care. I want an alliance ship. I am posting to support an alliance ship of any kind.

Then Alliance needs a ship. I'm not sure if the Wolf Mk. II is the right ship (my opinion is that such a ship shouldn't be off limits to the player-base but should be 'hard' to unlock, perhaps by doing missions for the Sirius Corporation), but a ship is needed. And capital ships. And rankings.

EDIT
: AAAI ftw though.

Indeed, the Alliance had some unique ships in FE2 and FFE and they - or at least some of them - should be brought back. And, yes, the Wolf as an unlockable ship would be great as well... :)

I'm 16, so I never played the older Elite games. It would be great to fly some of the 'classics' for myself (Fer-der-Lance is something I look forward to in particular, reminds of the BMW M Series of cars).
