Wings: Should ED now support groups with in game mechanics

"Wings Update" - An end to Voodoorituals?

Hello everybody,


after about an hour, searching the internet and the forums, I finally sat down and wrote this litte question:


Can anybody tell me anything about the "Wings Update" aside from: "It's coming."


A friend of mine (he as "normal" preorder customer, me as Beta Baker) would like to play together.


For the we, like everyone else, have problems with the matchmaking and instancing, what caused my buddy in rage quiting the game.


What will the "Wings Update" bring?


Will it have a feature that places you and the guy from your wing in the same instance (without performing an login and logout voodooritual, while praying the IP Adress of the Server to each other via Skype)?


It is nothing but anoying that 6 out of 7 times we don't "see" each other when login in, even if we are on the same station.


I hope anybody can help me out.

I think the only answer you'll get right now is "wait and see."

I suspect the new features in Wings will still depend on the general network performance. If you're having trouble seeing your friend now by using a Friend list or forming a Private Group, the addition of Wing features may or may not help. We'll just have to see when it shows up.
 
I just wish my friends and I could get in the same space when we're in a private group, on voice chat and putatively in the same space. Spent 20 minutes yesterday playing the login/logout game - chatting the whole time - and we could never see each other's ships.

How are FD and the player-base going to handle the inevitable 4 on 1 scenarios and the potential for Serial Interdiction? I for one struggle against even one PvP'er, having four chase me down just seems overkill. Now this worry all stems from my low level PvP abilities, maybe there are Commanders out there that feel 4 on 1 is cake..... Not me.

1) Do you think FD should keep interdictions balanced? i.e. Single target, one attacker drops into combat space or, attack a group of three and three of the four attackers drop.

2) Do you think each of the four members of a wing should be able to get a chance at a single interdiction target, or should it be based on the group? i.e. The attackers fail to interdict on the 1st attempt, they all suffer the cooldown.

I believe that allowing unbalanced attacks will only serve to increase the number of players that either DC when attacked, or just avoid Open play all together, unless they are in a full Wing. This isn;t a deathblow, but something to consider. What are all of those ravenous PK's going to do if that's all there is in Open? To be upfront about this, I can see both sides of the issue, but I worry about reducing the numbers in Open more than I do about satisfying PK's appetites.

They've already added multiship interdiction, as in, more than one ship tethering a single target to pull it out od SC. More than one ship on you, and I don't think it'll be possible to evade, unless they've both flying behind you in unison.

I do want to stress that we should really wait and see what FD comes up with before starting to figure out how it's going to screw over players.

No-one knows yet. We've yet to be given the opportunity to even beta-test it.

MAybe some fear. At least in the gaming sense. But, not fearing won;t keep me from having to pay that Insurance Deductible. Lol.

I'm not that skilled, yet. Maybe for a fully kitted, skilled Anaconda v. 4 very bad pilots though.

I am excited to see the larger fights as well. I have a Viper to do the dance in. But you're implying that to run in Open, you will need a group. Getting three other players to do some smuggling runs seems dubious to me.

Try and keep the personal stuff out of this. Insults don;t win debates, nor friends.
 
Or, play in solo mode. If it gets bad enough, a lot of people will resort to solo mode to get some action without the overkill of 4:1.

I mentioned that in the OP. But just saying and doing that tends to reserve the Open gameplay for groups. I would prefer if Wings encouraged group play without the risk of strangling individual play.

Our main weapon is fear. And surprise, yes, fear and surprise. And ruthless efficiency, oh all right, fear, surprise and ruthless efficiency. Our three weapons are... and nice read uniforms! Our FOUR main weapons are... etc., etc. <Exits through the fridge>
