The high cost of a Python

This is a let's have fun with the game post. Not a complaint or rant.

I finally have an entry level Python and am blown away by the equipment costs. 9.7 million for A7 Power Distributor? How about 51.2 million for a A7 Power Plant! It sucks up fuel like a quarter mile top fuel dragster (It's a USA thing...I don't know what sucks up fuel in the U.K.) so just an A4 Fuel Scoop will cost 2.8 million. Sure it flies great with D rated gear but obviously one has to grind with a Lykon Type 9 many MANY hours to get anywhere close to these costs.

Unless I get a billion dollar credit present from FD (sure) , I'm thinking go back to a maxed out Cobra for Combat, earning Military reps, etc. The Cobra is tons of fun. Then get back my almost maxed out Imperial Clipper (setup for best jump range) to continue Trading with C3 Beam Lasers just in case! I was enjoying the game with these two ships. Not so much now with the Python. So I thought to post a thread to save someone the 5.5 million loss selling a Python and going back to an Imperial Clipper, not to mention selling the Clipper and whatever else to get the Python!

The Python is cool! It has that "Cobra feeling" with serious weapons. If you are into "yank and bank" you're going to love it's response. Since I have one I'll play with it a little more to learn it's secrets. But the Clipper is as fast as any ship in the game, does very well in a fight, costs less to operate, is very sleek/stylish and has the best canopy view in the game. If you are into creating screenshots/wallpaper without a HUD or window frames the Clipper is the way to go.

Besides...Pythons are for Mercenaries and Outcasts from society while Imperial Clippers are for the higher class with style, grace and eloquence! Yes...I was weak but I know better now! :)

How does the Python handle compared to the Clipper? I honestly feel the Clipper handles better than a Cobra. I'm loving the Clipper and rethinking ever going to a Python. The Clipper is just that good imo.

Just my opinion...

The Imperial Clipper cannot compete with the maneuvering abilities of the Cobra or the Python (and many more) but it does well per it's size. It likes a straight line say as in coming in too fast through a station letterbox you rotate to approach the landing pad but the ship keeps traveling on that straight line per it's mass. Once a player understands this it can provide some advantages in using it.

The real deal about all the ships in the game is that a player has to fly them all...and fly them long enough to both enhance the player's skills plus understand what a ship can and can and cannot do. All the posts on the Forum won't come close to answering the real question...How do you feel flying that next level ship? That is what the game is all about.

you might need to re-examine your clipper outfitting. a properly weighed clipper with A6 thrusters has comparable agility to an eagle.

infact, i'd say its the big boy version of the eagle. the agility on this hull is incredible, and the python is very noticeably heavier and less agile. really not sure how you came to these conclusions.

I created a thread earlier asking about exactly this. Can you share a shipyard link with your clippers specs? I'm in the market.....

For your consideration:D turn off cargo hatch before you fly it! This is for battle-use

You can get 280 something cargo with shields in the python. Save it and use it for trade.

I do agree that ships and equipment feels to expensive compared to the rate you can make credits at this point. Also trade is the only viable option so far.

The speed on the clipper is amazing, the thrusters which correspond to the manoeuvrability stat from what i've found are trash compared to an eagle like these two aren't even comparable, just test the time to go from one axis to the other with thrust on a clipper, its considerably longer than a python or any other high maneuverability ship.

How did i come to these conclusions? I've flown all 3 and i'm pretty much a power user, simple :p

It's a USA thing...I don't know what sucks up fuel in the U.K.
That'd be 4x4 vehicles and any American import! :D

so just an A4 Fuel Scoop will cost 2.8 million.
I'm not at this stage yet - What about B or C rated?
I tend to find there's a *massive* price hike each time you go up into the top two or three tiers of kit, which don't seem that much better. Just recently, I was outfitting something on my shiny new Type 6 and the C rated thing was 60k, while the B was something like 190k!

Its about 2.5x I think per rating, pretty much the same for all equipment so

E - 100k
D - 250k
C - 775k
B - 1938k
A - 4800k ~ (ish~

Which I quite like as it means with a bit of mental maths you can work out what a module will cost even if its not available at your current station.

Edit: lol it actually is 2.5, woohoo for maths!

Its obvious that people who fly Imperial Clippers are trying to compensate for some other lacks in life!

The Python does suffer the Viper disease with its jump range. Not to mention fitting costs.

I thought i would only ever fly a cobra, though once i got into the python, it feels the same as the cobra, i love it.

Though agree that if shields drop, repairs are ridiculous. which is why i've only ever interdicted one ship, bounty 5k, repair bill, 30k !

I switch the load out of mine between cargo and combat every day or so, relieves the boredom. Last night i was doing 600k an hour with just bounty hunting, while not as good as trading, is much more fun. Plan on pirate hunting tonight :D

Yeah and class to class is roughly 2.8. So although the outfitting screen doesn't show you items higher than your available class you can work out approximate costs for any item from just the E1 version.

Stick with D modules except the A class FSD, use an undersized power module. Not that expensive then, and it has decent jump range.

Got my python, but had to spend the majority of my spare cash on an A class FSD to make my usual trade route. That meant i had a few trade runs before i could up the shields and put some teeth in in.
Typically, i was interdicted by an anaconda. Shields went down and one shot later my FSD charge was halted due to low power. Switched a few modules off, and finally jumped away.
50% hull = 900,000 credit repair bill.

I'm now sporting a few million credits worth of 'teeth', and i don't know if i'm dreading the next interdiction (repair bills) or excited by it (toasting the pirates)...

I'm also debating the benefits of the A3 fuel scoop over more cargo space. Per run the scoop has better returns, but flying round a sun for 5 minutes makes each run longer.
