Buying ships with real money.....?

Hi Commanders and Devs

I thought that it would be an idea if there was an option to buy any ship in the game with real money..... Why?

  • Supporting the Development of this great game
  • If you are destroyed and forgot to insure you could at least have a better starting ship than the good ole Sidewinder
  • Alleviate the perceived (or real grind) to get the ship you want
  • ?

Some of us love the game for its hardcore game play and happily sink in may hours into its beauty - I am sure however that there are others who really are casual players and just want to start at a particular ship - others do not have the time to pour into game ( Family or Business time pressures)

There could be many other reasons that I have not thought of.

PS My Bad - I see why its called Dangerous Suggestions

- I really was not asking for a P2W game. Just reasons to support the Dev's and help players. Then limit the ship to the Cobra - as it is a good all rounder. Sorry for putting the thought over as a P2W - not intended.

PPS I surrender - No purchasing of Ships or Credits

Thanks for all the comments

Once your game is branded "Pay to Win", its tarnished forever. This game has PvP, and whether or not its strictly pay to win, I think don't think this kind of thing is what most people consider a level playing field.

Also, for me personally, the point of the game is not to have the "best" ship, but to enjoy the experience of starting from humble beginnings and building your fortune through hard work and intelligence (or in my case, thieving and treachery).

Vanity items like ship skins and decals and other cosmetic customizations are perfectly fine. In fact, I'm even disappointed that there is not already more stuff in the shop. I would love a skin for my Asp, and I would like some decals too. Even better if I could upload my own decals (a service for which I would pay, as in games such as World of Tanks or Warframe).

If you want a P2W game go to one of the many that have Microtransactions please.

No.
You want something, you work for it.
I don't care If you have little time to play because of all sorts of reasons etc. Every thing you get in this game you earn.
Who cares if it takes you for ever, you work for and earn it.

I don't personally mind somebody being able to buy a ship or credits (for a dear price), as long as they don't get it in any permanent way.

Blow up without insurance = ship lost.

But... a whole lot seem to be very seriously against the idea.

Buying ships really wouldn't work too well as upgrades can cost five times the cost of the ship.
Now we're into equipment purchases as well as bypassing game play to locate the items. Then how much
would they cost? Given FD's rather expensive ships paints they would not be cheap! No, the only logical
item would just be purchasing credits.

Still I have played games like this and felt a loss and even a sense that the game was designed towards
forcing a player to purchase the credits versus it's entertainment value. I don't play these games anymore
for that reason.

Braben has been adamantly clear that this game will NEVER be pay to win whatsoever. The only items offered for real money are skins.

Absolutely not. Please never implement anything like this, Frontier.

As has already been stated above, the point of the game is quite simply to live a life in the galaxy, earning a living however you choose. The key word there being earning.

The entire point is lost if you give options to casual players with throwaway money, the ability to simply buy their way into things other players are working their asses off to earn legitimately. The only thing that should be available for purchase with real cash is aesthetic items such as paint jobs, decals etc. A feature which I know already exists on the Frontier Store, but is dire need of more options.

In short; any glimpse of P2W in this game would kill it.

I don't think you should be able to buy ships but I am all for selling currency to players I even worked out a nice conversion rate that would really help the developers keep the game funded.

£1 = 1cr in game

I think if we use this conversion rate it will allow the people who want to buy credits instead of work for their ships in game to do so. Because of how it is balanced it will also support the developers while keeping a random 12 year old from buying an anaconda or other ship and running around ruining other people's game for the lulz.

/sarcasm_off

Or an alternative could be you get access to a certain ship for free when you hit some sort of milestone, i.e. an explorer, a kitted combat vessel, or a kitted trade ship.

Thanks

Don ruin the game with pay to win, just keep the money on the cosmetic items.

Frontier make money, People happy, win win situation.

Playing devils advocate it's not pay to win as you are not getting anything that is not available to a player who plays the game in the traditional way. It's pay to speed up.

such a system IF carefully implemented can allow players who have little free time, but more disposable income(e.g adults with families and jobs) to be able to have access to content it might take them years to get otherwise. It also would allow credit rich, but real money poor players to be able to buy stuff like skins, decals and even expansions(I.e trade credits for game store items)

however, In order to make such a system work, then the whole game needs to be geared around that model(e.g GW2 gemstone and EvE's plea system) and not just added on as an afterthought.

ED does lend itself to such a mechanic, and indeed it would be very useful to have, but you'd need a whole different in game economic model to make it work properly.
