[SUGGESTION] Surrender

What about a surrender button? If you press it, your weapons, shields and engines go offline and you can pay your bounty remotely to the authorities, maybe with an additional 15% bribing fee. This also works as player and NPC interaction. If I hunt another player and he surrenders he has the opportunity to pay his bounty, I will get 85% of his bounty, the rest goes to the system faction. If he decides to surrender and I kill him anyway I will get nothing, the whole bounty goes to the system faction. To spice things up the criminal can cancel surrendering, launch his systems and try to FSD away, but that will be very difficult as he is stationary at this moment and has no shields.

Still need to figure out what happens if multiple commanders hunt for the same target. I think the bounty should be split according to the amount of hull damage inflicted. This is how bounty payments should work in general.
Also I am not sure about the pilots federation. As it is now you can only pay your bounty at the pilots federation and it seems like they are the only ones who can negotiate with the authorities on your behalf. Dont know if it would break the lore if we could pay bounties ourselfs and if it would bother anybody.

No not interested in allowing people to exit combat by pressing a button, thus avoiding the concequences of having a wanted status.

This feature would be kinda useless though. To pay off a bounty all you really need to do is visit a outpost which almost always has zero security and whenever you get jumped on you can usually get your drive halfway charged if you submit and re-engage the FSD while they scan you. With regards to NPC interactions, if you attack them and you are out of your depth you should be punished for underestimating them as one of the most important rules of ship based combat is that you never fight a fair fight. You want to only get into fights that are in your favour and have the highest chance of winning.

I like the surrender idea, but I would do it a little differently. There should be degrees of wanted status.

Come on it sucks when you are minding your own business fighting a pirate or bounty hunting a pirate and all of a sudden the police show up. Now to gain that status "Federal Authority" you should be a pretty good damm flyer. That is not the case in this game. I have lost 1000s because a cop doesn't know how to fight and fly and they fly right into your perfectly aimed fire lane. They come up from under your ship so you can't see them... Instant Wanted. In this case I did not fire on them, they moved into my line of fire. Now what cop does that, while watching you fire your weapons? Cops should know that I am fighting right alongside of them. They can see my fire. I can see theirs. Sometimes they are so great at flying, that they fly right into my ship... Instant Wanted

So one way to make this work in game would be:

  1. Have degrees of wanted status. (Currently in game right now if you don't pay your fine on time you get a bounty on your head)
  2. Make use the comm channel. The cop should ask you a question (Was that intentional?) and give you say 30 secs to respond
"N" they ask you to pay the fine right then and there
"Y" or <No response> then they mark you as 2nd degree wanted and blast you to smithereens.
  3. If you already have 2 or more degrees of wanted then they automatically blast you to smithereens.

I just think in this case and it happens a lot, that you should be given a chance to save your hard earned bounties. This would also take into account not being able to "avoid the consequences of having a truly wanted status". Since most of the time it really is not your fault and in my case it's a cop who cheated on his flight exams and he sucks at fighting and flying. Yet he has the status of "Federal Authority" and can shoot me out of space (or into it if your will).. sometimes in a matter of secs.. yet can't see my line of fire. Really!!!???...C'Mon man

This problem has been finally recognized by the developers (just yesterday, can you believe it?) and will be fixed soon.

You are right about making NPCs feel more human by reacting to player's mistakes in a more realistic way. Unfortunately, it seems that many people here really like to play against dumb 1-bit AIs, and even think that they are somehow superior because of this.

Ehm you can already avoid the consequences of having a wanted status by paying off your bounty at an outpost/neutral system. But I think bounties for killing clean ships should be higher in general, you should realy feel the hole in your pocket for getting caught. I think criminals would use surrender as a last resort as they would loose a lot of money. Or they wouldn't surrender at all, just think about how many traders surrender to pirates...

I dont think it would be useless. First it would add some nice player interaction, I realy like the idea of surrendering and then trying to FSD away leading to a pursuit. Second it would help greatly with those minor bounties wich seem to annoy a lot of people.

That is the reason I came up with the idea in the first place. But since the thread would get merged with the ff discussion I thought everyone would figure out himself.

Must have missed that, can you tell me were you found the dev statement on this?
