Sensors can't be sold/removed? Can't change type then?

Or to put it another way, can you only swap sensors for a different rating, keeping the same slot and class of sensor that the ship comes with?

I was thinking about downgrading my cobra's class 3 sensors temporarily so I could use the slot for a class 3 fuel scoop while I do some extensive rare grinding. I figured I'd be able to get class 2 sensors that would do for now, in place of my class 2 fuel scoop.

There is no option to sell the sensors so you can buy them in a different slot. Does that mean you are stuck with the class of sensor your ship comes with?

I was certain I'd read people talking about cobras with class 4 or class 2 sensors, I guess I must be wrong?

Anyone with certainty on the issue I'd be grateful to hear from you.

Cheers!

Sensors go into a dedicated slot, not into one of the modular compartments where you could put a scoop. Power plant, thrusters, FSD, power distribution, sensors, and bulkheads all have dedicated compartments.

And no you ca'n't change the class, because there's no variable that changes with class (for example, FSD's optimal mass changes with class and range changes with grade, thrusters are the same way, etc.) so if you were allowed to downgrade them to a lower class, everyone would.

Life support is the same way - you can only use the class that your ship fits and cannot downgrade them.

Eh, yes you can change sensor class. I just put class 3 rating D sensors om my clipper that originaly came with 5 E sensors, saved 18 tons and a little power. Am I not supposed to be able to do that? And are there any drawbacks I don't see?

You've just highlighted a bug I should go look into :p

I bet you wished you kept ya mouth shut now lol.
The bug been fixed.

If only sensors weren't a dedicated slot. I'd be happy to fly with no sensors in return for an empty internal slot.
