Elite boring?

I've been playing the game for a week, it seems there's nothing to do except farm.
Either by fighting random wanted enemies or by trading:

Trade rout: Trade > earn enough to upgrade > buy a ship with more storage > repeat

Fight rout: kill wanted targets > upgrade modules / ship > kill wanted targets > repeat

There's really no sense of progress except farming money.

There's no real exploration, nothing new to do...

Sorry it's not the instant action game that you hoped for.

Elite is and always will be a space simulator. With 400 billion star systems to explore, I don't know why you're saying no real exploration. You can explore more in this game than any other game.

The game has never been about progression/ stat increases/ level gating or any other theme-park like MMO's. It's a sandbox. You do what you want, when you want, because you can.

If your sole purpose is trying to get the biggest and baddest ships in the quickest time possible, then you will have a boring time.

Hmm let me see, DK2 - Check.. BKgamer - Check, HOTAS check, Voice attack - Check... I can have fun just flying past a star in a straight line. The game is really about what you make it, and having good hardware helps with the fun factor by a huge amount.

The devs seem to have a lot planned for the game, but for now I'm having a huge amount of fun trading, blasting through an asteroid field in a Viper with a giant star in the background, doing rares, dog fighting, nursing a cripled ship back to base while on life support, meeting other cmdr's online, hunting Black holes or just simply trying to Land a 1600T Type-9 with Flight assist off.

One other thing to note, you say you have been playing for a week? You haven't even scratched the surface of the game.. What ship do you own?

i am playing since sometime in beta and didnt get bored yet. frustrated yes, pretty much every session due to bugs and lack of content but overall i always find something fun to do and am having a blast while playing ED.

currently in a type-7 worth 20 mill and 10 mill in the bank, been grinding a long time it seems cause combat got boring and no sence fighting for small factions as it dosnt seem to change anything. working on getting the python. rinse and repeat trade route

My advice is that if you're bored, do something else for a while. If you end up itching to play again, great! If not, why punish yourself?

It's never going to be everyone's thing, and that's ok.

I'm sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you. The rising sound of my own jealousy is causing your communications to break up.

This ^ is excellent advice. I only get to play for 2 -3 hours a week and because of that I love playing and really look forward to it. Now if I was playing 2-3 hours a night I would imagine I would get a bit bored (although thinking about it probably not!). I'm still messing around with FAoff doing massive loops around the space station in a T6. Great fun.

The galaxy is already explored, all the systems are mapped and you can plan rout to a remote system before ever visiting the systems along the way.
All we can "explore" is getting info on the start and planets in a new system but that basically gives generic description.

Again the problem for me is that it's already known where the planets are, we just do not know the name so we cannot find anything new - we just attach a description to it.

i agree, it IS excellent advice! We should make that dude the next emperor.

On point though - I'm currently playing 2-3 hours a night (mostly because I know once term starts next week I'm going to be spending a lot of my free time grading), but as it stands 2-3 hours a night works out great for me. There are some evenings I'm not in the mood for it, or where I've been sitting in the chair for too long and my back hurts. Or maybe Gotham's on. Or I suddenly feel like rewatching World's End. Or whatever. So I do that.

It's supposed to be fun. You get to decide what fun means and if this game is scratching that itch. There's no shame in finding that it doesn't.

Aaayeeaah fillin' the char quota.

Last night I interdicted a player pirate in his Python chasing a trader around Lave in super cruise. He had around 2 million bounty. We dulled for a while but ultimately he blasted my canopy open but I got back to Lave station alive.

On Wednesday I decked my Cobra out for long range exploration. I headed out 500 or so LY to the Coalsack nebula and scanned a few water worlds. In amongst the thousands of dully named stars in the dark region I saw an Adder piloted by a commander called Steve. Over the comms I enquired as to how his exploring was going?

"Alwight?" says Steve before he hits the Jump button.

On my way back to civilised space I make a mistake and take a route through some brown dwarfs. My tank is empty and I have to roll the dice to make that one last jump hoping to get a scoopable star. I hit the jump button and I'm relieved to see a massive orange/white sun in front of me. I bask in it's warmth and head home.

Occasionally I get mad at this game, sometimes I find myself grinding for credits doing the most simple silly thing...but most days I do stuff no other game offers me... I always come back for more.

Every trader interdicted has a unique story unfolding, the flight and the plight to keep him alive and get the booty...

Every uncharted system has great potential for sightseeing, detail checking and time wasting in cool ways...

Chasing mission targets, defend the poor miners and side with a faction on a war zone, oh man, how many times did pride had to be left under the seat and running away with tail drawn was the smartest thing to do

Trading... what is that ? Unless you mean the Illegal stuff, that is good trade.

One story at a time, no boredom for many many years. Elite in its "classic" enhanced form in a multiplayer environment with all the huge "ideas" of the designers coming in due time ? Oh boy, nothing but fun every single evening. Can't wait for wings. Fun exponentially going through the roof.

lets be honest. This game wasnt designed to appeal to everyone. its a true space nerds game. realistic galaxy map, realistic procedurally generated systems, as close to realistic physics as possible while maintain some element of game play.....if you have no interest in astronomy, sci-fi etc its not going to ring your bell and thats ok. There is a niche for this game and hopefully its a big enough niche to keep it going
