I love bounty hunting, so I am doomed not to progress.

So as a question to FD, I have chosen "my path" and I love everything about it, well almost. Bounty hunting is great, I love the flight model in game, it never gets old for me. Dog fighting in extraction zones, bobbing and weaving asteroids and taking down bounties with my viper and x55. It's a blast! But Holy crap man, I have been stuck with my viper for a while now, and it has quite a lot of upgrades. The next ship in the line up is a type 6,but I refuse to buy it due to it being a trading ship. I tried trading and it almost ruined the game for me, way too Boring even if the money is great. So tell me FD, why am I being punished? The most fun aspect of the game for me doesn't pay enough! I really don't see how players can trade for hours everyday. Just running from point A to point B over and over and over again... If that's the only way to make millions in this game it is a failure!

And don't tell me there is more of a risk while trading, that's complete crap. Good shield gen, shield cells, improved hull, and boost out from any interdiction. Running away linked with zombie like gameplay equals big money in this game, and that just baffles me.

I'm not asking to buff bounty hunting to make millions, but nerf the heck out of trading. Balance it so players aren't forced to trade to progress in the game, please.

Here come the flames, bring it on.

Buy a Cobra, kitted out it's great for combat and can be used for whatever trading is necessary to progress. I have a pimped Cobra and an Asp. Regularly play in the Cobra because it is soooo good. Also have a pimped Viper but never flown it... maybe later :)

Bounty hunting and assassination missions spike at about 1 million credits per hour, even when they are very often just half of that. Once frontier give us properly working escalations in res it might actually become consistent even more than one million per hour with all those 100k to 150k anacondas to kill.

Sounds like even the 100 million for an combat Phyton are reasonable to achieve via bounty hunting. So what exactly is your problem, especially as you do this kind of profit already in a cheap viper?

Bounty hunting is a blast (pun intended). FD should buff it so the bounties collected are much higher.

Right now I trade for a bit for credits, then switch back to bounty hunting. You can add exploration or PvP to the mix. Rinse and repeat.

Just trading alone makes me comatose.

Have to agree with this.

I had the viper too, and did a lot of bounty hunting. It was great fun, but there wasn't that much money coming from it. I think this is mainly because of the bugs with the bounty vouchers not given for me...
Anyway the next ship I bought was acutally the Type 6, and I did some trading with it. No problem to make 200k credits per trading run, but hell is that boring... You just fly from one station to another and then back and forth again... I did like 1 mil credits with that, but nothing happened during that time, I wasnt ever interdicted once.
I definitely like to go back bounty hunting, to actually have some fun with the game (which is why I play any game in the first place, right?!?), but the bugs right now there even take the fun out of bounty hunting.

I'll be gone until they fix those bugs. See ya later!

Well I'll be honest, I have tried the assassination missions a few times, they are so hard to find. Maybe it's changed a lot since a few patches back, I'll try it again guys, thanks for the replies, and thanks for not lighting me up senselessly :)

If you get a cobra why not do a couple of rare trade runs. You can bounty hunt along the route and net over million credits per trip from the trading while also doing what you enjoy doing.

Just a suggestion :)

Take on some of the assination missions. You'll get 150-200k for the mission, + their bounty and the faction rep.

While this was fun for the first or second time it gets just as boring. Unfortunately AI is not up to the challenge, not even these so called 'pirate lords'.
I finished countless of those missions and it just is like hunting the next sidy at a resource extraction site.... know what we need? Proper tools to hunt players!

There are too little hints about the wanted cmdrs whereabouts in the news. This wouldn't increase the income by much but at least it would be more fun, I guess.

I love bounty hunting as well. Nothing quite as exhilarating as flying through the asteroids is there? Like you, I also hate trading, so I don't do it. I've got my kitted Viper and Eagle and have a ton of fun.

What I am confused about it the lack of progress you bring up. If I am flying the best two ships in the game for their given purpose, my profession of choice, what more do I need? Let's face it, bounty hunting ships are and should be small, nimble and cheap. Trading ships are and should be really big and expensive. The way I look at it, the profits from bounty hunting are more than enough to maintain the best ships in the game designed for bounty hunting, and the profits from trading are more than enough to maintain those ships as well.

This is not a linear game with clear progression. Yes, there are ranks, but all they are is a relative indicator of experience and nothing more

How are you being punished? You say you get to do what you want, you're having a blast and it pays enough that you can outfit the most appropriate ship with the best parts for it. Its not as if a anaconda or T9 would make sense as a bounty-hunting ship, so there is not much you could do with any additional money.

/facepalm

They are not hard, they are reputation and system specific, systems with factions that hate each other are best source for such missions and having at least somewhat standing in with all involved factions will mean that you can gather often several of those mission on each docking. And once you have half dozen missions with 200k reward each and a juicity 50k anaconda as target than credits come real fast into your wallet. Hey, my best result was like making 700k in 10 minutes, with some lucky interdiction of some wanted Asps and a Python.

And if you have multiple 150k Anaconda spawns in your RES than for sure it payday for a few minutes of pew pew too.

So since you're not progressing, you want nobody to progress? How remarkably altruistic.

I have a kitted out Corba and 8 million in the bank. All from bounty hunting and missions so I'm not sure why you are saying you can't progress.

The problem with bounty hunting right now for me, it's not really bounty "hunting". It's bounty duck shoot :)

Isinona's latest video is a great illustration of how bounty hunting should be. Using a bunch of tools/skills/risks with a potentially high pay-out at the end. It should be rewarding for the patient. To some degree he's role playing though as one could get a similar bounty pay-out at a nav-beacon, but this could be more routine game-play eventually.

Frontier had some good mechanics that let you track ship registration codes through hyperspace clouds.

I suspect that, as with every career path, the first release's base mechanics are at 1.0. The announcement yesterday that 1.1 would have "more ways" for players to 'collaborate' and the upcoming Fer-De-Lance (traditionally a bounty hunter leaning ship) might mean this career is up for some love soon.

So far have made 25MCr from bounty hunting.

And if you think bounty hunting is badly paid. Try exploration to make you feel better. Or a mercenary, fighting in other people's wars. Now THAT one is horribly paid.

But yes, they all deserve a buff compared to trading. But bh has it relatively good in comparison to almost all other activities

How are you being punished? If you don't want an expensive trade ship anyways then what's the point of amassing vast sums of credits?
Whoever said having most credits and/or biggest ship was the point of the game?
While trading is part of Elite (and has always been to some extent) it is just a game mechanic. Not the game mechanic.

I sure hope so, and I don't complain about the current state. What bothers me is the lack of precise communication, the lack of a precise road map. Shouldn't be too much to ask for.
