So I'm running:
"Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66Ghz"
6Gb RAM
Running under X64 win7
My graphics card is quite old now I guess...It's a Geforce 9500 GT... not sure what brand.
I have set every setting I could find to low or medium...
I am typically playing @1280x800
My experience has been ok. Occasionally a bit stuttery... especially around the planets with rings, or just after appearing in front of a star after hyperspace, but by no means a disaster.
Strangely the biggest annoyance is the speed the menus operate at.
I just found out how to display the FPS on screen and took some measurements....
58 FPS - Displaying the video of my spinning ship as the game loads.
8.7 FPS - Down in the docking bay immediatly after loading
8.7 FPS - Showing the main Station menus - Without having left the initial location.
10-15 FPS - during take off sequence inside Azeban City.
20ish FPS - Flying around outside Azeban City
I decided that perhaps a new graphics card might help improve things though..
So I did a little research and was directed at this site -> http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php
I don't know much about modern video cards, but I looked mine up on the site and it's "Passmark G3D Mark" (some sort of benchmark score) was 291
In the past I have bough video cards which were at the time costing around £100, so I went to check out what was available on Amazon.co.uk.
I found that the most popular chipset in this price range was the "NVidia Geforce gtx 750 ti"
I looked that card up on the samer site and the score given was 3688. I read that to mean that this card is more than 10X better than my current one.
Is this a reasonable assumption?
Does anyone else have the card I'm considering?
Does it work well for you?
What resolutions do you play at?
How many of the graphical bells and whistles can you turn on?
What sort of FPS do you get.
What else should I be considering?
Please be gentle.
I used to know about such things, but that was when 3dfx cards were all the rage

Thanks very much for any help and information
