Player-built stations

Would be neat if some areas started off with a mini-base that didn't do anything but accept resources. Players could have to get cargo (from far away, rares, from NPC transports, etc) to "turn-in" to build the base. Players would get a percentage of ownership based on how much they contributed vs what the base needed to become operational. Then, based on the activity at the base, the "owners" get daily dividends from the profits of the base.

Perhaps there wouldn't just be a fixed number of each resources for the base. Perhaps some resources would be a fixed number, but others would make the base lean one way or another. Perhaps one makes the base lean toward cheaper repairs or refueling. Less profit, but more traffic. Perhaps some resources would sway which economy type they had.

Although what you propose isn't likely to happen, there will be player owned 'bases' which inflate an asteroid into some kind of useable base. There has also been talked about the possibility of player owned Orbis stations at some point in the future.

Warframe does this "team base building" quite well in-game (Dojo's) but I am unsure that it would translate well in ED. Not necessarily against the notion, it's a long road ahead after all, just unsure...

The game could do lots of interesting things to allow players to expand into new regions of space.

There could be a colony projects page on stations that show new colonies that players are trying to build in systems within 100ly of your current location. It would cost say 1 billion credits to send a colony ship to the system so players need to donate credits to the project for the colony ship to be built and launched. Once the money has been raised a colony ship will be built and scheduled for launch. When launched the colony ship would be slow and defenceless so it would need to be escorted to the system or risk being destroyed by pirates.

After reaching its destination the colony would be created on the planet. Part of the colony ship separates to form a temporary station around the planet and the rest lands to start the initial colony. Players are now required to gather resources and bring new colonists to the colony in order for it to become established and the faction of origin that launched the colony ship is now represented in that area of space. Players would also need to continue donating credits to the development of the colony as a continued money sink.

As the colony develops the station would grow and could have the services is provides upgraded. Once a colony is established you can then begin to build additional stations around non-habitable planets in the system same system.

Establishing a new colony should be a risky and difficult venture with a high chance of failure so players are forced to work together and also spend large amounts of credits.

For once the idea of exploring and colonizing space by player is interesting especialy because there are lot's of empty space in ED.

What I don't want to see :

_ Players puting base in civilized space (at least without paying for the right to put a base at the spot). It should be very costly to do anything else than colonization.
_ Players giving stuppid name to their station. The naming should be first proposed on the forum and if not opposed, it will be accepted. Debated name would be judged by the FD.

To solve the stupid name problem, names could be generated via random generator using cool/names terms. Problem is, so many stations already exist probably utilizing the same naming process.

I definitely want to see creation of our own stations, partly to run our own businesses from. Business skills can be acquired via some kind of crafting system.

People should be able to name their station whatever they want. There should just be a mechanism that allows someone to rename it if it annoys them enough. Someone might make a hostile takeover of a station simply to change the name. They would need to have military, financial and diplomatic ways to force the change.

This could backfire though and a group of people could start renaming every station in the galaxy using different terms for genitalia.
