Another suggestion. I don't need to see the landing pad when I'm leaving the station. Give me my radar back before I lift off so I can see if there is a ship coming up behind me or into the slot. Especially important when you are in the first couple rows.
Just lift off to slightly above the floodlights and you'll get your radar back without being in anyone's way.
I think the 3 biggest problems we have are:
1) People rushing to get in and out of stations. You're going to have to get into the habit of just slowing down and taking your time entering a leaving a station; especially busier ports.
2) Bad AI when it comes to traffic avoidance with PC. NPC avoidance seems to be fine, but PC avoidance is non existant. It's like if you're not on the algorithm, they just can't see you. Also, please FDev, the minimum you could do for a stop gap would be to stop exiting NPC ships from stopping just outside the letterbox so they can adjust their vector for their trip. Just keep the forward thrust on.
3) The bottleneck of the letterbox. As in real life, the busier ports (airports) should have multiple "runways" for departures and arrivals. This could be achieved by having 2 letterboxes on the busier stations (as has been suggested earlier). The only problem with this is that if the letterbox is not bang on the centre of the station, tracking it for entry will be very hard. You'll need a letterbox at each end to make this work.
