Virgin media super hub users

Does anyone else with a uk virgin media super hub only see occasional other cmdrs? Is there a definitive test to see what's wrong?
How many Cmdr do you ever see?
Surely I should see more than 1 other Cmdr at sol or lave? I wanna be more social but the pvp is not connecting very often :-(
I hear doing manual port forwarding may help? Any others ? o7 cmdrs :)

Are you serious? Why do you think your router could possibly impact on the number of other players you see?

Because the game uses P2P in order to connect commanders and the router could block/restrict/stuff up this traffic?

Port 5100 I believe, although this is from memory.

No, are YOU serious? There are things about networking that you clearly do not understand. For example: Everything.

Check UPnP is enabled on your router and for the game. Check this file: X:\YourFilePath\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1002\AppConfig.xml - At the bottom of this file you'll find the section called, "Network". You will also see 'upnpenabled=N'. If this is 0 change it to 1.

I don't have a Virgin Media Garbage Hub, but I suggest you buy a new router immediately and replace it or Ethernet your 'Hub' to your new router and set up a DMZ. I have my Sky Hub (SR102) running all data through a DMZ, which belongs to my router (ASUS AC1900). I did buy the AC1900 router with a modem, but when my Mrs found out I'd spent £400 on routers, she flipped out and made me return the modem one [was still within 7 days] - We're also getting married in < 8 months! :D

NB
FORC-FDEV-D-1002 - This section of the filepath may differ slightly from yours.

I'm on it.. port forwarding is way more preferable to be honest. uPnP is a security nightmare waiting to happen once you have port forwarding setup I'd turn that off on the router.

I'm on VM using the Superhub, and a TP Link Router in between too. UPNP works fine for me, I see dozens of CMDRs flying about the busy areas.

Thanks for you replies and suggestions cmdrs - I'm gonna try tinkering with port forwarding ...
Better half will notice if she loses her wifi though :)

From what I've seen of the net traffic, it's light P2P, I have a Super Hub 2 and since the server update to fix shared instances, everything has been a lot more populated.
I suspect even if VM were to throttle P2P in your area, it would likely not impact ED in any noticeable way. I can't be 100% on that, but it's nowhere near torrent level traffic.

Makes me wonder if there is anything in the verbose logs that could help diagnose if there is a local issue or not.

Cheers.

Networking tyro here, with a little knowledge (a dangerous thing!), with a question please.

If I've port forwarded my EE Brightbox, should I disable upnp (i.e., set to zero in AppConfig.xml) again? I've got it set to "1" ATM.

On Virgin Media, Superhub 2, logged into Open last night and saw a player in my system.
I'm more concerned that I can't see the people in my Group to be honest. Hopefully Wings will sort but I'm sure it'll bring with it another set of challenges lol

I am on VM and I see other commanders, and been chatting to them last night at founders world.

I'm on VM too and I see other CMDRs sometimes, but never dozens. Around Lave I was seeing maybe 6 or so around the station.

I'm on VM and DO see commanders. Haven't done anything to the router either. Sorry, not helpful. Just adding to the stats.

Your VM Hub should not affect your ability to meet other commanders in any way, UNLESS, you have set your own custom filters that end up blocking traffic used by ED. VM have done a lot of work on the firmware for the hub and it is now one of the better hubs out there.

However, it is worth mentioning that Virgin media do throttle p2p traffic at peak times if you exceed certain thresholds. Although this really shouldn't affect the number of commanders you are likely to run into, it could possibly cause some lag if you are on one of the cheaper packages under 20Mb as both upload and download bandwidth are reduced for a period of 5 hours if you exceed the allowed limits. Packages of 30Mb and over only restrict upload speed for a period of 60 minutes if the upload limit is exceeded.

I do have to point out that ED on it's own really shouldn't exceed the thresholds, but if there is other p2p traffic such as torrent traffic during the same period it could.
