Did I cause a station to shoot a commander?

Scenario:

I'm retuning from another uneventful but rewarding trade run. See another CMDR approach the station in a Cobra at speed - he's marked yellow, whereas I'm allied with the station - and he proceeds to speed through the station entrance and quite a speed. As I've seen that movie many times, I tend to dock a bit more slowly and cautiously. So I go through the entrance at a modest speed, and see nothing in front of me. All of a sudden he appears in front of me - levitating at a standstill right in front of me. Either that, or he thrust upwards in front of me - I honestly don't know. I assume he's just another CMDR trying to find his landing pad. Anyway, I accidentially clip him with my ASP (with all 4 pips to shields), and he loses about 2/3 of his shields. I notice and immediately type "Sorry!". A second later I hear "Target shields offline" and see that he's now wanted. I have no idea whether the collision is to blame or whether he was scanned on the way in. The station opens fire, and he's blown to smithereens.

Anyway, I'm just wondering whether a collision could set off a sequence of unfortunate events that see a perfectly innocent CMDR blown sky high? I was hoping he'd respawn in the station to ask him what happened, but I don't believe he did.

Thoughts?

Probably forgot to get docking clearance and was trying to get out. You clippling him would have put him into a spin and probably got caught up in the gubbins of the station. Timer runs out, station gets trigger happy. 1 more kill towards it's Elite rating.

Interesting theory. It's been a while since I've entered without permission. Does the station now give you time get out once you've entered the main docking Bay Area?

Yes.

And a rather short one if you're flying anything bigger than a Cobra.

30 seconds tresspass warning. Immediately starts upon entering the "cage" at the entrance.

lol I like this story. You will find that as he bounced off your shields he would of gripped his controller and fired off a few rounds, making him wanted and the stations auto defence system kicks in and makes him banther food.

That's probably what happened, then. He was perhaps reversing or thrusting to turn around, and wasn't counting on being hit by an ASP from behind. I feel terrible - partly because I'm not sure whether he would've made it without being rear-ended, and partly because I find his bad luck a little bit amusing.

CMDR ....tea.. I will gladly help cover some of your losses, if you need a bit of help getting back on your feet, and happen to be reading this message!

I seen a wanted commander docking the other day. I scanned him with everything I had trying to get the station to go hostile towards him :-D

Sorry I should not laugh, but you said you rear ended him in you Asp? I hope it wasn't the pointed end, or the soft end. Cannot help it, the thought of somebody bouncing of an Asp..., ha ha ha...

Yes, a few seconds, if you instantly slam reverse you have a chance to make it out. I did hit an type-9 on my way out once. Made it in both cases with 1 and 2 seconds on the timer. If you would have set me spinning on those cases than I would have been dead fore sure and lost over a million credits each time.

And yeah, it sounds very reasonable, you have to remember what you just shoot past in the letterbox and try to evade it blind to survive such a case, so him suddenly turning up in front of you sounds reasonable. It the best reason not to play while being super sleepy, because you quite often start to forget your landing permission, landing gear, etc

Yeah, if youre flying something small. Trading in a T9, half asleep at night, cargo full of gold. Forgot to ask permission. Well, atleast I managed to get the fat lady on reverse before I died.

It does give you the warning right before you enter the letterbox. Just enough time to pull back on the stick and slam into the metal poles. Much better braking than the cows.

When I'm going in the station, I'm going in the station. Got no time for any fancy toaster braking techniques
