Let's fix this Federal Dropship of ours.

I don't think we should even be considering tampering with this ship until it's obviously absent role can be evaluated after new content is released.

well, I'd rather have 14 instead of 13 usable ships now. Can readjust it again once that content is added in 6-24 months.

That would be pretty dumb considering that any FPS module is likely six months or more down the line. Why have a useless ship in the game? Wasted design space when it could be easily corrected, even over corrected to get some people back doing Fed rankings.

mmhh, i dont get it, why python owner are scared...

you have 3 !!! large hardpoints, 2 medium hardpoints, you have a power dis that supports those guns easy going, high maneuv, and out of 280 boost speed it is 390 because of class A awsome hecking thrusters..
you turn like a sidey, carry as much as type 7, have better shields then the most expensive ship in game, that turns like a roid.. and you really think a nerf isnt necessairy, and the faction ship that cost more then the clipper, have a large harpoint less, is slower, heavier has less shields doesnt need a buff ???

my gosh, you guys are so damnnn away from having a logical view..

the python needs a nerf, no matter how it ends but its way to op atm..
the fed dropship needs a buff since the asp is doing a way better job with way better shiels, maneuv, cost, even dps because of supirior hardpoint placement...
comon be a bit intelligent and think about what the heck your typing.

just because you own a python you dont want to see any balance ??
i can afford a python but i dont buy it, tbh i want to own a fed dropship, that actually can compare with an asp, espacially when it comes to combat..
as long this isnt balanced, lets stick to the asp and cobra even adder for multipurpose and hope once i can buy a fed dropship to upgrade from the asp, since the clipper is something like a wanna be stylish looking dido or something, then is better then a type 7 in hauling, same cargo, better shields, better maneuv, better speed, better guns, better power.. its the same like the python just in cheaper mode... so damn senceless.

Many of the issues are because we are missing ships and missing considerable parts of the game itself.

As it stands now, theres two ships in the game that are competely worthless and one ship that is clearly the best...its expensive yes, but that doesnt mean its not unbalanced....The Python does everything well, and has no drawbacks...Let me be clear, im not saying nerf the python, but the other ships currently in game need to be buffed.

I hate nerfs and advocate buffs to things that arent working like they should.

The FedDrop should have an innate bonus to power plant output, better shields and armor because its a MilSpec ship, and not just something a rich adventurer can buy...im okay with cargo being sacrificed a bit, but ONLY by a bit.

I might be wrong, but I fantasize to have read some dev said the python and shield cell banks will be adjusted?
Anyway, if you made a list right now with the least popular ships, the dropship would be the winner by a mile followed by the Orca. At least that looks like a sex toy, the dropbox doesn't even has that going for it. Probably no coincidence that the "what the hell are they here for?" ships are passenger ships.
We just might have to ignore them until the functions they are intended for are implemented.
(And hopefully the "I'm an Empire man because of the clipper" flock will divide evenly then)

Yes please buff the Dropship. At least give it a size 7 slot like the Clipper - aren't Dropships supposed to be tanky?

Even if the dropship was able to fill its role of passenger transportation, it's current stats don't make any sense for what is suppose to be a defensible military ship for high ranking officers.

Nope, it ain't. I'll make it easy for you - ships you should never, ever even THINK of modifying in any way, shape or form are Viper, Cobra, Asp, and Python. The reason being that those are the only ships currently in game that are useful.

Edit: I didn't include freighters in that list not because I think they are useless, but because their role isn't really affected much by modifications (aside from cargo space).

By this line of logic then, you're suggesting we buff all other ships to fall more in line with them.

That's, not a bad idea. I'm all for Buffs, not nerfs. Make other ships useful, and don't change the others at all. That way, people can't complain about their ships getting nerfed, since the stats never go down. Ship stats only improve. Warhammer 40k has been doing that allot lately. Rather than balance old units, they just release more OP units for other armies and thus a balance is met through saturation. In theory.

I'd say a little of both is needed really. I think the Python just needs some speed and manuverability tweaks. The dropship, as it stands on paper, is utterly useless. There are better vessels for cheaper prices. There is absolutely no reason to use one as the game stands. It needs buffing, and it needs it sooner as opposed to later.

But then again I'm an Imperial. I have no use for such inferior tech. ;)

Elite has always suffered from this problem, there have always been 2 or at most 3 ships that were ridiculously overpowered for their size and cost, the imperial trader was obscene in FFE which results in everyone gravitating toward them.
You will probably find the Python was one of the developers fave ships in a previous version and they decided to overpower it in this version.

I'm a dropship pilot, and while I love the ship, I have to agree it doesn't really do anything well. I really want to fly a "military looking" ship (I have a Retaliator in Star Citizen), and the dropship is really the only candidate. So I'm happy to fly her in spite of her flaws. The biggest problem I see with the ship is the repair cost. You almost literally can't afford to fly it. Each percent of hull damage costs over 10k to repair, plus you have another 5-10k in wear and tear damage to pay for. You could certainly engage an Anaconda, but it will cost you 700k in repairs even if you win. The way it works out, if anyone gets though your shields, you have to run because it's going to cost you a fortune -- even 10% damage will wipe out an entire evening's bounty hunting. If you are an explorer, stumbling upon a white dwarf even once (which nearly always knocks you out of supercruise) will cost you 25k credits -- likely an entire night's exploration profits as well.

So, I'm not really concerned with the fact that every other ship in the game does everything better than the dropship (even though it's true), but right now I've got a ship that is impossible to make a profit with and I'm very slowly running out of money to keep her flying. Fix the repair costs, and I'd be happy.

P.S. If you want a role for the dropship, turn it into a heavy bomber like the Retaliator. Personally, I see that as the perfect niche for the ship -- something optimized to fight big ships, but sucks when faced with fighters.

I'd rather have the ship pulled and replaced with a different Fed vessel than have it buffed, only for it to be in need of a nerf when it's actual niche shows up.

Agreed

Why even have these ships nobody can even use really?

Could of had the vulture, fer de lance or other ships right now instead and actually useable. Instead of a credit sink and death trap.

And.... I just had a rather dramatic illustration of my previous point about repair costs. I was just in a war zone and got rammed by a viper. It destroyed him and knocked my hull down to 30%, so technically I "won". My repair cost was over 800,000 credits, and I bet the replacement cost for his whole ship was less than that. So even though I "won", I really lost the encounter.

I think that by only droping the weight down 200 tons will make the federal dropship an more viable ship to buy.
This will increase it's speed, maneuverability and shield strength.

But NO Class 7 internal compartment it's to small to have one.

An Boost to combat ability but still weak at trading, the Imperial Clipper is HUGE so it deserves the cargo space.
So it's stronger against Asp but still weak against Python(nerft edition).

Plus it makes sense size wise to:

ship-lakon-asp1.jpg
Asp 280 tons

ship-coredynamics-federationdropship4.jpg
Federal Dropship 580 tons ??? (380 tons is more logical I think)

ship_delacy_python.jpg
Python 350 tons

Ps part: Isn't the Imperial Clipper supposed to be able to ferry passengers:

ship-gutamaya-imperialclipper5.jpg

Imperial Clipper

The Gutamaya Imperial Clipper is the quintessential Imperial ship.
It epitomises elegance of form while delivering speed and agility.
Because of its balance of speed, luxury and strength it is used for transporting valuable items and personnel of importance across the Empire.

It's a Dropship, it has 300 points of armor which is more than every ship but the Anaconda who has 525, Clipper/270 and python/260 are close, too close if you ask me to differentiate a Dropship from them. However it has no shield, no speed or armament worth mentioning because it has 0 agility ZERO and it has no cargo space! what kinda Dropship has no cargo space you are supposed to take soldiers and all their gear and small vehicle down to hell.

Nerfing the dropship armor is not the way to go, it need a serious buff somewhere else though.

Just bought the drop ship for its new low price. Im satisfied with this ship. I was running an Asp for combat and exploring and a Type 7 to credit munch. After kitting out the Dropship for max trade, with an A4 sheild and A5 FSD, it is a great trade ship with the capacity between the Asp and Type 7 and the ability to be kitted out for combat. What other ship can you buy for less than 20mil with those weapons points?. Now I can do what I did in the Asp with more firepower, and carry a great loadout of cargo. I feel this ship is now a great all purpose ship between the Asp and Python.

Yes its slow, and a heavy beast to pilot, but you can use the weight to your advantage somtimes.

So all, bored of the type 7?, and the Asp not carrying enough cargo? Splash out on the new, bargain Dropship. And have your first taste of using 4 medium and 1 large hardpoints to collect the new higher paying bounties.

I am glad you are happy :)

Me I refuse to use a ship who can't even fit a shield generator that is optimal for it's mass. I am an engineer. I have my standards.
