You have a trade route that makes several million in 30 min with nothing larger than a Cobra?

Then I've obviously been doing this wrong. I've not seen anything with nearly that kind of turn-over. I disbelieve your implication.

The answer for me is "about 30 min ago".

The game is uninstalled. I'm going to go play Civ while X3 loads back on the machine.

When will game designers learn that a system where weeks of work can be obliterated by something basic is... a design I'm not interested in playing. Perhaps others are. More power to you.

Damn you get a lot of attention with this one. Funny stuff----well anyway - get your ass back to the cockpit on a few months time or so. New features will be added - like multiplayer groups, sahred bounties and a lot of other stuff. Consider hooking up with friends that maybe can help you with some credits. It's not a multiplayer game if you don't treat it like one.

Best of all.

Honestly just seems like the OP likes single player games, and doesn't like the work up aspect much.

I loved X3, but its a different type of game, with different flaws. X3 without mods is pretty darn awful.

Yesterday I bought an ASP, fitted it with a few million credits worth of upgrades to trade, and began to build up my money back. I realized I mis-calculated the amount of credits needed to fit the cargo hold of 128 tons, so I had to fly without insurance.

I've done this many times, I knew the risk, I knew that one mistake would make me lose everything. So I begin earning money..

After a few runs, getting close to being able to fly with insurance, and still getting used to the ASP's speed compared to the T6. I found myself overshooting right before entering the station slot, I braced for impact...and...poof.

I lose around 10-11mil and pretty much all progress with trading...

You should have downgraded parts to have insurance IMO.

Don't ever ever ever fly without insurance under any circumstances!!!!!!!!!
Murphy's law will get you!!!
Bite the bullet and take the time to earn the insurance in a lower ship, or sell modules!
When will people learn!?

I spend weeks trying to build up any money in this repetition grind. Then I crash into some black ship blocking the entrance to a station, and loose millions.

Thanks to this stupid obsession the company has with online play, there's no old save to go back to, no cheat to not have to spend weeks grinding the same missions over and over and over.

I'm done with the game. It's not fun enough to play for any reason other than to build, and to suddenly die over something so stupid, leaving me with no ability to re-equip... I'm not ready to spend a month of what little free time I have to get back to where I started.

I'm done.

No one cares that I'm done. I know. But I wanted to rant because... this is bad design.

So basically you gambled and did not have money for insurance? Is that right?
I have lost several ships myself, and of course it hurt (my pride mostly), but I always had insurance money.
I currently fly an expensive and defenseless T-7. The barge costs 17 million (without upgrades), but I bought it not before I had 26 mil. credits.
Losing it would cost me dearly for sure, but it would not destroy my game.
Insurance is a safety net, but it is you who decides to use it or not.
If you decided to ignore it, don't blame the game.
Not having insurance money in ED is a form of self destruction.

When will game designers learn that a system where weeks of work can be obliterated by something basic is...

This simply is not true. The game is not designed that way. FD did not add the insurance system for nothing.
But the game also refuses to treat you like a toddler. The choice to use insurance is yours.
You self destructed by not having insurance money.
Blaming FD for that is ridiculous.

True. Mods are what made X3 work for me as well. Rougey had some sweet mods for it. He's playing ED as well now :D

I dont know what ship you were flying that you lost millions, but even if your flat broke you can get your ship back at full load out still.
I have died 20x by by boosting too much or accidentally hitting it whilst inside - pfft so what its just a Game.
My total insurance payouts topping 7m currently, but my total bounty claims topping 8m. Currently killing things in my Python - insurance 3.?m current credit balance 1.5m (ain't crashed this one yet!)

Try using outposts instead of stations pretty damn impossible to bump another ship whilst landing on those n stop yer crying its just a Game.

I would think that quantities would be useful.

Though I must wonder how helpful all of the "suck it up princess" responses were to the 60,000th thread either.

There's an irony in how this thread has progressed that has me both shaking my head and giggling at the absurdity.

While you're giggling watch this and just replace references to "Australia" with references to yourself: Useful Video

Ive been knocked back to a sidewinder twice. Once from an Asp and once from a Clipper. Both times I was mad as hell but with myself not with the game. The game didn't make me buy a ship I couldn't really afford. I did that all by myself.

You were the one who risked everything, how is this anyone's fault but your own?

Hey, I have an idea for the FD Moderators.... perhaps we need a "Rage-Quit" Sub-forum for all these impatient, min-max, obsessive grinders, who continually fly without insurance.... that then quit the game with a militant whine about how "THE GAME IS BROK'DED" when it was them at the helm, guiding their hard-earned ship into either pancake or confetti formation.

Very true, In fact, I think I could have avoided the collision if I wasn't busy sitting there jaw-open at what was about to happen :p.

However the only thing I miss is flying the asp, not the credits I had. I have learned and adapted, while also finding better things to do, thus increasing the amount of things I can do before getting bored of E-D.

I really do enjoy the "punishment" that someone can get (like losing everything they owned), unlike some games, the difficulty isn't in impossible bosses to kill, or hidden tricks. This game can get hard fast, but it is mostly due to the actions of the player. If one wants to play perma-death, they can simply start in a sidewinder again, if you don't, just keep some money on the side for insurance.

It forces players to learn from their own faults... well... most of us anyways.

Elite is an extremely easy game at this point, but not everyone is good at everything, and perhaps this sort of game just isn't something you are able to figure out. You have no one to blame but yourself, and your lack of foresight.

This may sound harsh but he's right. Same applies to every single other thread like this.

GEEZ you lot don't pay attention when playing, if you explode in any way - crash in station - get shot to bits - whatever the cause,

you can get your ship back with your full load out - EVEN if you have ZERO credits to cover the insurance the game mechanics allow it you get a 'loan'

(which you dont seem to pay back <- but that might be because I haven't paid attention to the detail afterwards)

it takes a small amout from CR you make in game when you finish a mission you payout will be a little less as it pays the loan

Nope the loan option has never been available to me. appears in red text and I cant click on it. Believe me I have tried.

the amount of times ive seen players flogging the throttle in and out of stations and on occasions (you know who you are) straight into my clipper (class 7 A) shield and insta pop is amazing. listen to the hot english lady in station and.... SLOW DOWN i dont mind doesnt break thru my shield but dam dude you scatter goodies all over the dock and we cant pick it up in front of the cops. if you see me coming in dont push past you end up a splat on my widscreen

thanks @bigredmuvila never notice it..

worked every time for me @shads.

maybe its only available for kick starters and beta backers then, I don't know... haven't needed it since getting my Python though =)
still fly through that letter box at 200..

Just want to point out that it would only work if the ship costs less than 200k.

I believe that is because the loan is already applied, but you still don't have enough money to pay for the ship, I could be wrong.
