Audio tracks you play ED to

I find the music tracks in ED a little uninspiring, so have made a bit of a compilation to play in the background. I go for epic style music that almost always feature a crescendo or 3. I'm keen to expand my compilation, so am looking for ideas. But in the interests of give & take, below are some of the best tracks I've found rather befitting of the high-octane game play I go for.

1: No Time for Caution (Interstellar)

For those of you who have seen it, this is the awesome 'impossible' docking scene from Interstellar (for those of you who haven't seen it, what's wrong with you?).

2: Mountains: (Interstellar)

Also from Interstellar. This is from the scene where gargantuan waves are mistaken for mountains.

3: Final Frontier (As used in one of the Interstellar trailers)

This track has orchestral and techno influences and is pretty inspirational background music for playing ED. Spices up exploration nicely

4: Avengers Age of Ultron (SDCC trailer soundtrack)

This is the track that was used in the comicon Age of Avengers trailer that almost no one got to see. It is a slow-build climb to an epic crescendo. Prepare for spine tingles. Music doesn't come much more epic than this

5: Kanadas Death (Sunshine soundtrack)

You've heard this before no doubt, if not while watching Sunshine, perhaps from Kickass. Another great fit

6: Disc Wars (Tron legacy)

This track (collaborated on by Daft Punk) is all kinds of cool, and a really good combat track

7: The game has changed (Tron legacy)

Another from Daft Punk, and perhaps the consummate dogfighting track

8: Gravity (Gravity)

One of the most beautiful tracks I have ever heard. Not really a great fit for combat scenarios, but for me it works well during exploration & travelling through systems

9: District 9

Another beautiful track that takes a turn for the truly epic towards the end. Fits in the same way the Gravity track does

Suggestions for what else I should look into including?

Try this or anything from Nigel Stanford's Solar Echoes album

I play this song whenever I enter or exit a station.

Sorry, none of that is my cup of tea - I'm more into this stuff:
Yeah... sorry, that kind of music went out with flower power a good number of decades ago. I appreciate sentimentality and all that, but the vast majority of us have moved past that. I use to be into that sort of stuff to... when I was 15, back in 1985. Grew out of it, like most people. Music has evolved way past that. Some people just can't let go though I suppose. Horses for corses I know, but I don't see how that fits the gameplay of ED in any way shape or form.

I play this song whenever I enter or exit a station.

Good choice for giggles in that situation, but it is otherwise a pretty good representation of how far rap music has degraded over time. Rap music use to be about making people dance. Now its just about chest beating and ego pumping. Male rappers like to prove how gangsta they are, female rappers like to prove how slutty they are and I find this particularly sad, as I grew up at a time when rap was born. It wasn't all just thug-life back then - it was about the sound. Rap hasn't evolved, it has devolved terribly (unless you are impressed by rhymes).

Thanks for the other suggestions guys. Some great stuff there. Will add some of those gems to my collection

I mainly go with old school Metallica and AC/DC to get in the right frame of mind...

You grew out of rock music, like most people?

Anything that sounds like this works for me..

Nah, not quite... grew out of rock music of that era... yes, like most people. Same as we grew out of glam rock, etc etc. Some music from that era was timeless, I would agree. But not this. I will concede this is a taste thing... but I would also suggest that most would agree that it is hardly a good fit as a backdrop for sci-fi, which was the original point of the post.

I appreciate the fact that there's a lot of grey-haired fogeys (like myself) playing ED (for obvious reasons) and yes, we can all be sentimental. But how you guys equate the sounds of Black Sab, or Gary Moore music to the sci fi arena I will never figure. And if you guys can show me just one example of sci-fi media that proves me wrong, please go forth and provide it.

I wasn't asking 'whats your taste in music?' I was asking what do you play ED to. If this is what you come up with in response, well, I feel sorry for you.

I was playing to Tangerine Dream last night. They do a lot of long, fairly ambient tracks that ooze 80's nostalgia and fit in with the game really well.

Oh yeah, they sure do. Love TD. Near Dark soundtrack, one of my all time favs. I made this video of me catching (and getting chased by) sharks from kayaks to a couple of TD tracks. Ambience is what its all about ;-)

I never look for a good fit, or what anybody else thinks is " right ".

I listen to what moves me.

My original reply is an example of one type of music I listen to when playing ED.

Please save your sympathy, and your condescending tone....
