read OPs post, if game would be offline as promised there would be multiple savegame slots like in any single player game since 1990, including all other Elite games, but no it needs pseudo online one save slot DRM for some absurd reason

Thank God they removed offline mode then!

I've actually been a bit worried that once I flew around in an Anaconda for a bit, I'd ask exactly that question.

Except for PvP, go play X3. It's got so much more mature a rendition of this.

The galaxy isn't as cool, and the flight mechanics are a bit less fun; but trading and mining are better and there's so much more to the game itself... no to mention the mods available (I was heavily into the modding community on X3 for several years). It is what I am going to do.

Sounds like me that you should have done more research about ED and that this kind of games aren't your kind of thing.

How big is the database for 400billion systems? Do you know if you could host that locally? Could your gaming PC run Google Earth's servers too? Consider the scale. An "offline mode" might be 100 times bigger than Frontier, but no more than that...

Translation: This game is causing a *lot* of people frustration because of a design element; so much so that they are quitting playing.

And not that I'm looking at the threads: there are a lot of people not "rage quitting" complaining about traffic control at docks, damage on collisions, failure of NPCs to use lights at docks.

I sense a theme in the whining of those who have come on the thread I made to complain about the thread... they see *many* of unhappy players over the same issue.

That's kinda significant.
I don't get it people buy the game either knowing exactly how it works or they buy the game having every chance to look on the internet to see how it works either way it's their fault they wasted their money . I bought the game after watching lots of reviews and reading up on it, and it's exactly what I expect it to be, I don't expect an online sandbox game to allow me to save my game and reload that save if I do something stupid, if that was the case everybody would be cruising around in top of the line ships with trillions of dollars. LOL save a game in an online sandbox multiplayer game!

He didn't know he was flying without enough for the rebuy cost.
Had checked before buying new ship that he had enough but
when taking a mission the cost of the cargo put him under.

I'ts an easy mistake to make.. kind of like forgetting to request docking clearance.

The rest was about how the "grind" to get there was just not very much fun
so didn't feel like it was worth to do it again.

All to which I agree,, Game has too much grinding to advance into larger ships.
Simple errors cost too much where as
the game in general is really easy and repetitive.

Only 20£ per slot or 1000 Frontiercoins, yippi yeah

Ok so the OP AND you are whining that you can't just undo that stupid mistakes you make? Alrighty then!

I don't really think data size is an issue. I'm willing to bet that the entirety of Elite Dangerous is vastly smaller than your average 50Gb AAA action game. Procedurally generated systems are often quite light. Read a bit about it here: http://www.jongware.com/galaxy1.html

Now look at the computational power that existed at the time to create/run Frontier and compare to the power you have today as well as the advances in algorithms, data compression and all the other factors.

Edit: Google Earth is massive due to all the non-procedural data. You can not compare that to a procedural system like the FD galaxy which draws on a relatively small set of data (textures/models) to populate the procedurally generated galaxy.

The constant credit chase has got to be the least rewarding way of playing the game. A massive rush to earn billions will just have you grinding for no good reason.

What happened to people who played games to enjoy them? To take their time and soak it up?

I will never understand some peoples reasons for playing games at all. They're games, you know? Fun stuff?

It costs nothing to be sympathetic and polite. Even if it was his fault. No need for 'do one'. Come on peeps. Banter is one thing but lets not turn this into facebook or twitter.

We had this topic coming up too often. It's always the same. The OP failed and died and blames the game, that doesn't have anything to do with it.
End of story.

The way to view this game is from a risk management point of view.

Losing a ship is no big deal as long as you have the insurance money.

The single riskiest thing you can do is fly with a lot of cargo because that isn't insured. You need to make sure that if you lose your ship and cargo you are still in a position to continue trading at the level you were at before.

This is your save and your own form of cargo insurance.

And? I read it twice, still don't see your point aside from the fact that the game isn't for you

I remember the one time that I chose to fly without the money left for insurance. Not only tht, but I even ha a hefty bounty on my head that I was desperately trying to pay off.

Most pants wetting half hour of my ED gameplay yet. The sheer relief of getting back to that landing pad with a fistful of bounty claims was enough to make me log off for an hour to chill out. Lol!
