Ships

Hi John,

We have not yet announced all of the playable ships that will be in the final game, but there will be 25 available at launch. The ones we have shown or mentioned so far:

  • Adder
  • Viper
  • Sidewinder
  • Anaconda
  • Asp
  • Eagle
  • Panther Clipper
  • Imperial Cutter
  • Dolphin Class Yacht
  • Orca Class Yacht
  • Another unnamed Passenger-class ship
  • 'Freighter 3'
I don't think I have missed any out, so basically we have announced just under half of the ships that will be in the game at launch so far.

Maybe you can mention it to FD, but taking a trick from Starcitizen and making the ships an easy accessible link on the main E: D front page might be good(and adding to that as they are revealed)?

I know much of them are concept type art, but as Starcitizen showed people will go all weak at the knees and cow-eyed for detailed ship info and pics etc. Probably the geek in all of us? :D

So true, Zak. I know I already am from some of the concept sketches of my old favorites from Elite. :)

We're trying to do exactly that over on the E: D Wiki.

No it won't be playable, at least not at launch. The Condor is the Federation's counterpart to the Imperial Fighter, which means it is only a short-distance fighter. That means no jump drive and very limited storage capacity.

Way to ruin my day, I was hoping to fly that small beauty. Love the design for the Faragot and Condor. One of the main reasons I am going to align with the federation.

I don't know where the name of the Federation Cruiser has been referenced from, but the name Farragut is moderately famous, after this US Civil War Admiral: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Farragut

I didn't create the page, but if you look at the blueprint for the battle cruiser, in the blurb at the bottom is the reference.

Thanks for the responses guys. Checking out on Wikipedia, I notice there were Farragut-class destroyers in the American navy, one lot in 1934 and another in 1958. Obviously both named after the Civil War Admiral as per Slythe's post.

Nice... we will not be able to fly cap-ships, though, will we? I mean... 2 km long, 7000 crew? Woa...
No, FD have said that that would be a very different game to the one they intend. I asked, and it was answered in one of the videos, about owning fleets of ships and building a trading empire.

I think the Cutter will be fine for those who want something that feels close to a capital ship. I'll be happy with my Cobra and an Anaconda once I get to it, though. That kind of large cargo ship is just perfect for me. :)

Well, actually, some ships already are quite large... the Anaconda has numerous decks and rooms, which really surprised me, since I never expected the ships to be that large back in the olden days. ;)

...not that that's a bad thing, not at all!

And yet it's still able to be operated by a single pilot. Talk about efficient systems, eh? :)

wonder if there a Cobra MK1 Because it was part of elite in 1984. Smaller then the Cobra MKIII. Note I know the Cobra MKII never made it to production.

A question - would it be possible for an 'indie' player with no Imperial connections to obtain and fly long-range variant of Eagle MkII?
