Slowly working to an ASP

Flying my cobra and torturing its hull with all my crashes, ramming deaths ( only 7 deaths so far, 2 combat ramming Pythons and others from full boosting spacestations) and last but not least boosting and hearing the hull start to crack...oh yes!

My cobra does it all. Only...lacking a bit of firepower..need more hardpoints. So next logical step in evolution..an ASP. I flew that thing back in the old days, a mighty vessel indeed. Fully packed with multiple shield generators and a 20Mw beam laser to shoot pesky musquito's. I am not a die hard trader, playing 1-2 hrs every other day since alpha memmories can take me back. At the moment my assets are 3.7M so i got 3 million left to go for..a STOCK ASP.

Wow what is he gonna do with it? he should save up to 15 million...for a explorer or 30 for a combat ASP. Well..i am "low on cash". like only 750.000 now. All else is in upgrades. I am att nav points killing some bounties..flying a bit of goods, like the MAKE CASH fast ads...

Now i might get dissapointed on the stock ASP. But it is going to be an adventure to discover hmm this ship is more expensive to run then the Cobra..hull repairs...insurrance...maybe stay away from nav points and trade up to a little buffer before doing the crazy stuff again..i need 6 non gimballed beam lasers, or a big cannon to pulverize hulls, military grade armor and a good handsome paint job.

that ASP is gonna cost me loads of time and money...but thats how the elite way of life works, scrapping the things you need and resorting to ..less civil ways..if needed more. To all you who are bored of the game, say it is a grind sim (which game isnt) i gonna have a good 2-3 months before i get this ASP where i want it..

Don't have a road plan, no idea what i want with it other then its bigger then the cobra, should pack more firepower and thus i should hold out a bit better when using tactic 47-Alpha...ramming speed.

cant wait till i have my next 3 million maybe to next weekend? :D whohoooooooo!!

I'm having a blast :)
Thank you, if, for reading this utmost non intresting post :). Other then for educational purposes for those stating its a tedious grind. Play less hours, do more then hauling.

P.s. I flew around and saw NPC James Tiberius in a Viper with wanted status. James Tiberius died :) Nexus or not. He's dead.

do not buy it untill you can afford to upgrade it to better modules because you will need them and dont forget insurance like so many ahead of you that have come a cropper

Lol!
Same story here:
Sidey > Eagle > Adder (shorttime) > Viper > Cobra.
Next step ASP, i got a Class A Viper, a Class A Cobra and 3.6mCr - three million to go.
I mentioned yesterday that it becomes a little grindy but i hope it's worth it..

- I dont PVP, so i got that going for me (9gag ref. :) )
- A slow stock ASP only motivates me to get it better and giving purpose to the grind while learning to love the ship in its most bad shape..

I see the eagle and viper as fighters, small agile...i see the cobra as a double barreled light armor...i see the ASP as a TIGER tank :) Big heavy lump piece of whoopass :) for the NPC's :)
Flying the Mobius group.

An unupgraded Asp is mostly rubish even against rats, not even being able to take other Asps if you're unlucky. Its also a lot more expensive to run.
Wait till you can actually afford to fit it or you'll just be frustrated.

As per the above. You will need to upgrade shields and FSD at the bearest minimum.

Im saving up for an asp too, since its the logical upgrade from a cobra- which I dont have (Im currently running an adder)
only CR5.5m to go for my stock asp! ;)

And a decent FSD will cost round 1.6 mil (and that's a C5 D IIRC.....)
I went ASP straight from Type-6 and spent the first few hours cussing at my impatience... change when you have round 10 millions. If you need cash, get a type-6 and do soem rare trading. you could do with the cobra but I don't think I ever got it to do more than 15Ly jumps (Type-6 is around 20Ly laden)

Approaching 40m credits with my Cobra, it can do just under 18ly jumps and is fully upgraded, been wondering about the Asp since I want a ship that has a bit more cargo space but can still fight.

I am at 9 million credits and still waiting to change to the Asp. My Cobra and type 6 still do the job, no need to change yet.
The Cobra is a fighting/rare goods machine, I have an eagle as a missile ship, a Hauler to have a go at mining and the type 6 has 100t cargo with chaff, mines and one shield boost module, each does its part of the game.

Would the Asp do all the above?

Also - Founders World has 500k credits off the normal price for the Asp - had a look yesterday but didn't buy.

Same boat. Got 5.5 ml saved. 800k viper and 3.5ml cobra. I can get 20ly with 36tonne. Debating changing all in but unsure. Maybe a few more runs.

Also remember that the repair costs on an Asp are astronomical.
I tried a combat zone in a reasonably-upgraded Asp: 1 death, 1 canopy breach and one bit of minor damage set me back ~ 1M Cr.

loving my ASP got all the upgrades for this bad boy its a killing machine i get 180k to 200k on bounties @ nav points :D

You can easily run an Asp with 80 - 116 cargo space, depending which shield you settle for. With that you only need to do a few trade runs & you can buy all the upgrades you need. Cash comes much faster in an Asp than a Cobra.

Over the weekend I had 3 mil in cash, a fitted type 6, cobra and an adder. I sold the lot and had 8 mil in cash.
I bought a stock asp and fitted it for 116 cargo hold. I'm now using it as a slightly bigger type 6 until I can raise the cash to upgrade some bits on it, or rebuy the type 6 / cobra. Yes it doesn't have much range, and the fuel scoop takes 10 mins to fill the ship. But I'm glad I bought it, a bit worried about scratching it though.

Also thrusters and power coupling, if you want to do combat.

@se_thrax:problem is, an Asp is a *huge* target while turning so you need something (shields) to compensate for the fact that you can be hit so much more easily.

I was actually taking the lousy AI into consideration for not being able to hit a anaconda from 50meters affar... :)..

I am working towards an ASP as well although a little ahead on the credits front than you. I have got my Cobra well kitted out for 44 tonne trading runs as well as combat, loving my new medium gimballed canons. I mix the 2 game play methods, as I can only do trading for so long before getting bored.

Will keep saving and then buy the ASP once the 1000Ly route planning is implemented, then I can take it on some extended exploration...

Well, i have a cobra, type 7 and a viper, all decked out to the max of their duty, and besides that about 16 m to spill...
The money comes relatively easy now, but despite that i am going for the ASP, as it is the most well rounded 'all purpuse' ship in the game up until the panther clipper will make it's debute (if it will be around ever :).
The costs o flying it won't be much of an issue but i think i wait until i can decked it out to the max 'all purpose' layout while keeping my other ships...
A few more evenings still to go :)
