You probably took a different route to me but I used a clipper instead of a type 7 so going from clipper > python was a very small upgrade in profits as the clipper was extremely fast and only dropped 44 cargo, didn't have extreme fuel costs and handled perfectly for trading anyway.
Interestingly you'd have to make ~130-140 runs at 1k/t for that 44 tons to pay for the 10% you'd lose buying a python then selling it during which time both ships would earn you 30mil, assuming you had 80mil when you bought a python this is actually enough to jump straight to a type 9 in terms of raw mula anyway.
Sigh... I guess this is technically exactly what I wanted, but now I want to play as much as I possibly can so I can get a Python before it gets nerfed....
Just so I can be that guy who says "Back in my day..."

As far as the Python needing a nerf: I'm not sure why people feel like a ship that costs over 100 million credits to configure a strong combat setup NEEDS to be *balanced* with ships like the Viper, which can be set up for about 5 million.
They'd be very foolish to tweak it too much, its pretty much the only real combat ship after the viper so I wouldn't worry too much think of it this way, if you get it just after they nerf it, you'll never know how much better it was..... God i hate that i said that please don't nerf it too much![]()

Here's the post in question: I don't read this as "major nerf", but maybe I'm just being hopeful. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=86856&page=17&p=1556219#post1556219
I still think that the cost of the python indicates that it SHOULD wipe the floor with the smaller ships (generally speaking, and assuming pilots of similar skill).

As a pure trader, it's not an upgrade for the T7 in my opinion. The additional cargo space is offset by the abysmal jump range and exorbitant fuel prices. Scooping is adding too much time to a roundtrip. It's a fun ship, but keeping the T7 (or Clipper!) and buying an A class Python with 120m is possibly the better option than trading with it.

It's WAY better for trading than a Type 7. It's jump range is not much less, it can hold around 80t more cargo, it can land at outposts and it's way faster/mobile which will shave a significant amount of time while docking and leaving a station. On top of that, who's going to interdict you in a Python?
i agree with all you said, except i was just interdicted in my Python in Altair, by a Cobra no less, i think he must have only realised when after battling for a few minutes and him using up his sheild cells constantly, he messaged me saying, "Asp is to big for me to take", then another message "whoa a python" and he was gone before i could catch him again.
Smaller ships are no problem to the Python, only problem is if they run, you can't catch him.
All credit to that Commander though, he stood his ground much longer than any NPC has lasted (even Anaconda ).
I don't own one, but even the AI Pythons are really tough to beat. You need a well equipped ship to beat one.
And if I get interdicted by a Python CMDR well... I run. Of course, this will change once I have a better loadout on my brand new Viper.

Just remember the Python will have its manuvability nerfed.
Who's going to interdict a python? NPC anaconda lol.
