Will people ever lose that bugged money?

I was playing the game pretty steady for a while but I quickly stopped playing after I realized that some people had pretty much infinite money due to mistakes made on frontiers side or through various bugs/game breaking rare run routes before they were nerfed. I understand that people say "Well its not really hurting you since it doesn't effect your game play at all" but it does... I don't want to play a game to earn something to show it off to other people that play if they can go out and buy 10000 of the same ship completely decked out after only playing for about 10 hours. Even taking the money away that was given to them now is no longer a way to fix this issue since they had the ability to buy the best trade ships and make a ton of money that way through a ship they didn't earn. Anyway, will this ever be fixed or should I just give up on this game that had such high potential. :S

Research some of the many posts on the issue. Some people got away with exploiting and some did not. They lost both the credits and the ships in some cases..either way it only affects Online play technically, not Solo.

If showing off your ship to other people is the main point of this game for you ... then yeah, I'd quit. There are already a ton of people with Anacondas and Pythons who have them legitimately and you have absolutely no way of knowing if the one you see is the one that gained it by exploits ... so, if it bugs you that much. I'd quit.

Right, some people got away with exploiting and some people were just given a ton of money after a server restart one day... Its those "some people" that no longer make this game feel like it should even be able to charge you for a ship or modules. Just knowing 1 person out there got a ton of stuff and nothing is going to be done about it completely breaks the online portion of this game. At the very least open another server or something after they start tracking peoples money and arn't scared to ban people for exploiting or at least roll back the saves to an earlier one so they lose all that progress they made after they got that game breaking money.

At least 2 players have legitimately traded to over 1 billion credits to get Elite trader rank. There are many more Tycoons hot on their heels. All done legitimately without exploits.

Is your world view shattered?

Didn't FD end up actually removing the lottery/exploit billions from the game in the end, after going back and forth on the issue?

Not that it matters to me personally, I play solo and couldn't care less if someone got 5 billion.

By legit do you mean they started out with the broke "rare trade no limit runs"... Even if they do have 1 billion credits and they earned it the legit way then no, it doesn't shatter my world. What shatters my world is the fact that somebody who spent 2 hours in the game could have 1000x the money as your so called legit billionaire

They removed the billions from those that were "just given" the money.

They are actively punishing exploiters they are aware of and there have been a number of threads by people moaning that they have been reset.

The gamma rares trading was a balance issue, not an exploit.

The lack of gamma wipe is now basically irrelevant as many people from release day are now steaming ahead (including at least one of those trading billionaires).

So, what was the problem again?

"The gamma rares trading was a balance issue, not an exploit." -- I consider it more of an exploit honestly.

If they are in fact banning/deleting saves of people who are getting money through other exploits/that random server restart then that is great. I mean, through legit trading you can make between 1 to 4 million an hour not including the time it takes to find the perfect trade route, so I can easily see how somebody who has put in about 450 hours into the game should be a billionaire if you take into account how much the ship is worth.

You can make a lot more than 1-4M per hour. I make 1M every 10 minutes; and unlike some traders I only put in 90 minutes a day.

We're possibly getting into semantics, but given they were working as intended (as far as I'm aware no-one from FD has used the E word) and they have been perfectly capable of fixing other, more gratuitous, exploits, their relatively calm about the rares issues speaks volumes about the balance issue/exploit question.

Either way, it's done and not going to change, unlike other exploits which have been fixed and accounts reset.

Oh, and for perspective, regular (non glitch, non rare) trading tops out nearer 7-8 m/h if you know where to look and use a Type 9.

I don't see how it's an issue? There will always be people who can devote more playing hours to the game and thus get more money and better equipment. Externally, this is exactly the same as someone who has benefited from a flaw / exploit and gained credits quickly. It makes no difference to the rest of us - they both have good ships.
The only way this is an issue is if you allow yourself to be bothered by it.
Lastly, even if today the devs said that everyone was going to be reset to nothing, tomorrow someone could find another opening.
You can't really afford to let that sort of thing get to you.

You should quit indeed, before you start effecting others playing experiance with your envy egocentric personality...

I never knew of this outrage til I just read this. And well... I don't care. it doesn't actually effect me in any way, since I don't feel a need to compete with some dude who got a free ride who can be anywhere in the galaxy and that I will most likely never encounter anyway. You need to relax and breathe into a paper bag for a while or something.

Just give up to be honest, if its such a massive psychological barrier for to deal with other people virtual wealth then the game will just wind you up and sap any enjoyment out of for you. Its a great game but its not worth ruining your fun time over.

OP, come back in a year and give the same complaint. Everyone who has played for more than 2 months can be in an Anaconda. Go ahead and leave. The game won't miss you all that much. Those of us who never play in open won't miss you at all... (how again does the way I play my game affect you?)

So many trolls... I was not aware that frontier had made a stance against the exploiters/server restart bug. I quickly quit the game after they said they were not going to remove this money from them. Your right though... How could somebody getting exploited money to buy super over powered ships on an online game with PVP have any effect on other people... Anyway, thank you guys for the helpful feedback, I think I will just keep it a solo game for now.

Meh...don't worry about showing it off. Nobody other than you really cares anyway. Even your friends just grin and nod to humor you.
