That Fer de lance, though!

My little editions of Fer-De-Lance :)

This is very nice - liking the radiators along the sides. The one thing I do like about FD's design is the cockpit being further back. Makes it look a little bit meaner. If I had to choose between them it would be this design hands-down, however ;)

This really looks like the original Fer-De-Lance. Maybe keep the fins as an upgrade for future planetary landings. "Atmospheric stabilizators". Since the engines are so large I guess it need big heat vents. And it looks very original. Many good ideas here :)

I actually don't mind the fins on the engine on the original concept on this one. They fit better than they do on the Asp IMO.

Are you insinuating that we will one day be able to "Rice Out" our ships with spoilers and wings and canards? lol

Here's the orginal description of it,

A Zorgon Petterson Group (Zee Pee Gee) designed vessel favoured by well-heeled bounty hunters and freewheeling business corporations. A sophisticated craft, capable of both limited trading, combat and leisure function. The spacious hull is mainly given over to sophisticated weaponry, defences and navigation equipment at the expense of cargo capacity. Cabin accommodation is large and luxurious with extensive Owndirt Inc. recycling facilities, encouraging extended live-in periods (useful whilst pursuing a quarry). Fuel scoop is a standard fitting, ensuring complete self-sufficiency.

–Description from Elite (1984) handbook

The Fer-De-Lance according to the original Elite handbook should be a high level combat craft. Not a luxurious pee-pee shooter. Nobody will fly it then. I say 5 hardpoints, best accelration in the game, good turning rates and excellent upgrades. And an affordable price range like 1-2 million. A heavy fighter for the elite bounty hunter or pirate.

A good idea wont you say? Just a suggestion :) Dont think we need spoilers though :D

A pimped up bigger brother of the Viper could work. One extra medium hard point. Even faster when boosting, and not super agile. A boom & zoom beast with a price tag to match. Maybe 3 utility mounts, and an undersized cargo hold (same as Viper)

i'm tired of weak fighters with bad jump range, i'd like a high price fighter medium size and the price between 4 and 8 millions plz, with good maneverability, best speed, good jump range, extreme weapons, a lot of power, not much weight punishment, decent cargo

just like an ASP, but with more weapons/speed instead of cargo

Agreed, although I also want it to look sexy if it's going to cost millions of credits and I'm going to be seen flying it around. I don't care about cargo space I just want something that looks aggressive, like the wiki concept art, as opposed to this soft, plump, fer de lance.

YAY someone with potatochop skillz.

I prefer the look of the one above. But with more pronounced exaggerated inlets.

I prefer the idea of the one below.

Having the side panels somehow be a light source would be fantastic, it would really add something unique to the FdL.

Perhaps make them so from the front they resemble a pair of eyes?

Still think it needs to be slightly longer with the width further towards the back though, it needs to look faster.

Agree, except for one thing: Fer-De-Lance should be expensive, not affordable. In fact, it should perhaps be a bit more expensive than "balance" would dictate: it's a status symbol as well as a price for capabilities. Say, a BMW is a more expensive than a comparable capability car, just because it's a BMW.

Yep :)

Fancy spacious cockpit, real Earth Cow Leather seats, quiet engines, low vibration, high inertia reduction ( low hud swaying ), mini-bar.

Wow, I just realized, that thing on the nose, that looks kind of like a second cockpit? I am pretty sure that is the main door for the ship. If you look closely, it is square, and has the standard pattern for airlock doors on ships.

Not too expensive. I enjoy Bounty Hunting and have no desire to trade. If tradings the only way to afford one that will just suck.

Anyone else noticed that the viper sounds like an old V8 muscle car when you throttle back and then everything shakes. I love it!

Not a fan.

How many of these have pointless winglets? Why?

And why do so few evoke the ships of old? So far only the Sidewinder, Cobra and Anaconda feels like the ships from the original and just the Eagle from the 90's sequels.
