[VIDEO] Ultimate ASP Explorer Setup Guide - 38ly

You may have missed this last night.

Please comment to keep the post alive...

Also - please remember this ship setup is for LONG distance and 99.8% of the time will never be in populated space - before people start talking about shields and weapons and whatnot.

This setup allows you to jump into the unreachable clusters that are often a 37ly jump.

why a c fuel scoop and not a d? should be lighter

:D what you said - don't go any higher though, unless you don't mind making no money from exploring

im still at the trading part of the game making a few hundred millions so i dont need to worry about money anymore. But every calculation i did i prefer the Hauler as an explorer just cause it is so much cheaper and nearly does the same performance as the asp.

I started in a Hauler :) - I've done a setup guide for that too on my channel, the only downsides of a hauler is the 32ly range and poor visibility. But it's an awesome starter and really cheap to run!

Good guide Nutter, thanks for sharing. I've been thinking of tuning my Asp to a greater jump capacity. I haven't really been out of the human bubble yet, save for a quick tour to the R CrA nebula. I guess I have to deal with the thought of not having a shield and weapons. I got about 27 ly right now with acceptable armament, but those extra ly's can prove handy undoubtedly. Do you still encounter hostile Npc's in the outer reaches?

38 LY is really impressive. I might switch from my trusty Hauler to this in the future, thank you.

Yeah thanks, I made this setup after trying to reach a few nebula that needed a 35-37ly jumps, really frustrating! Not anymore - I'm going back now, because I CAN! hahaharrr

I'm running with an A3 power plant as I was worried that the output would lessen due to wear and tear. That doesn't seem to be the case so far. (about 8K travelled by now)
I also took cheap shields (2t), not needed while exploring, yet I would hate to die in a docking accident with a compromised hull after weeks of exploration. My hull is at 86% already, don't explore while tired. I hit a couple of planets and a neutron star tricked me :/
Anyway does the power plant stay at maximum output?

After 12 jumps in this baby you will never see a ship again! - Hope that answers your question! ;) Large fuel scoop means non-stop exploring. :)

Commander Nutter, I love your english accent ^^

Hehe thanks! - I don't love my voice, but for the good of the commanders... hear me droll!

Yes Full power all the time :) even with integrity at 14%

I know what you mean. I am currently exploring far above the galactic plane and already had to skip few interesting systems because Hauler couldn't possibly reach them. That extra 7-8 LYs would make a big difference.

Very nice. Hopefully getting my first Asp when i get back to civilized space, providing i've made enough on my current tour. *fingers crossed*

I'd be scared to fly without any shields though. I know, generally not needed once out in deep space, but accidents happen when close to human space.

Also, why do you call it an A-S-P instead of Asp?

Regarding power distributor, you said not enough power to boost... but is boost really necessary anyway? Could you switch down to lower and accept the loss of boost? Or is the increased jump range not worth it?

Is this the nifty white asp paint job i was wondering how it actually looks on an asp?

(Best part of the outfit:) )

You can run the next size down, but lose boost, I never tested anything else as I turned round and docked. I wanted to have boost and there is hardly any added weight. I suggest testing heat buildup and scooping before you go anywhere :)
