Accent of station announcements recordings

Is it weird that I open and close my cargo scoop all the time to hear her say "cargo scoop, retracted"?

I just love the way she says that sentence..

I always think it sounds like she's about to giggle at the end of that one :)

Some of Holly's quotes:-

Holly: Our deepest fear is going space crazy through loneliness. The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes.

Rimmer: Was there any damage?
Holly: I don't know. The damage report machine has been damaged.

Holly: Emergency. There's an emergency going on. It's still going on.

He sure sounds like me and my compatriots attempting English.
There's also a nice sounding one with a Slavic accent.

Our station announcer does a better job at English than most Dutch people though.

Thats a rather horrible example. Even our prime minister speaks better english, and thats saying something!

In some fed stations, the background announcements are made by some guy with what I think is a Dutch or Scandanavian accent.

IIRC, there are quite a few different ones in Imperial stations.

:)

I've only heard 4 different starport announcers:

1. The American lady in Federation ports ("Loitering is a crime, punishable by death").
2. The Asian lady in Empire ports.
3. The man with the fake Eastern European accent in Alliance and some Independent ports ("Plocking the ducking ports").
4. The funny Middle Eastern man in Anarchy and some other Independent ports ("We take a very dim view").

These are the 4 listed in the game credits. Are there others? If so, please say where and I'll visit and listen. All the Federation, Empire and Alliance ports I've heard have #1, #2, and #3.

I hope FD will add more, especially in Independent systems. Scottish, Australian, etc. Perhaps a rural West Country English accent for the Farmers Union in Kappa Fornacis.

User submitted recordings could be interesting, but I think voice acting for a Station Announcer is more difficult than you might think. Listen carefully to the intonation.

Excellent, I was just reading to the end of this thread with a mind to suggesting myself to provide a proper Cornish accent... :)

"Ey you, get orf th't bleedy landin' pad, ee in't yours!"

-- Pete.

It's definitely Dutch, I live in Holland and hear it every day.

My favorite is Betty (cockpit voice), though. I get a kick out of hearing my "friendship drive charging" :)

And you need a proper studio to be able to record game-quality audio.

Starport annoucers should come from Birmingham / Earth / Sol and have had experience of working for 1980's British Rail...

It makes me think of an english speaking guy's imitation of a french guy speaking english with an accent. Kinda like the voice of Marie Delacroix in System Shock 2.
But it's probably just because I'm french.

Oh, and the guy's name is in the game's credits !

Would definatly love to see greetings not unlike the X games "On behalf of Our President and Senator, the Argon Federation is honoured to welcome you onboard.
.
