Turn, Turn, Turn

Ok - so I'm at a complete stop above the Dock... oh noes I'm facing the wrong way! How do I turn around without moving so I stop crashing into stuff.....

What type of controller are you using? If you have a joystick that can twist, you can use that to control the yaw. It's slow, but its the best way to turn around without running into anything. Otherwise, just raise your altitude off the platform slightly and make the turn, there is usually plenty of space to do this even in internal docking bays.

Yaw all the way around. It takes a while but you'll pivot on the spot. Just do that until you get bored and decide you need something faster.

Thrust up to TWO ship lengths higher than the pad.

STOP.

Rotate nose under bum 180degrees.

Once you are lined up..the spin 180degrees.

Thrust down two ship lengths.

Important : Before doing ANY LANDING / entering a station. FOUR PIPS TO SYSTEMS. Shields with 4 pips behind them save lives.

I usually just strafe up a tad bit and do a stationary immelmann roll before strafing down again. The yaw is far too slow to be suffered through for 180' degrees.

I pull up on my stick to point the nose upwards and just use the thrusters to move me back. Then i return to the horizontal. I never usually use thrusters to land anything anymore. I only use them when I overshoot.

As a guide, always approach with the blast doors in front of you (The things that drop before you take off). 1 for small, 2 for medium and 3 for big.

Using negative reverse thrust works well. Yaw in one direction while you thrust in the opposite direction. You need to make use of all thrusters.
