PvP vs Piracy...they are not the same.

Then do that. Why should there be a guarantee that piracy would be lucrative? Your 'they run so I just pop them' attitude is one of a petulant child, but we have those in this galaxy so we deal with it.
:
Coddling a trade is just plain wrong. FD says pirating is possible, it doesn't have to promise it is profitable, nor easy. It's tough to watch people complain about this stuff. The first lines you read on the E: D tells you that you are on your own. So do that and get over it. The galaxy does not care.

The only true words spoken by you were "The galaxy does not care". So, since that is the case I will simply blow up every player ship I see just for grins. No reason for ceremony, just kill. Which is what I will be doing and so far I have about 44 CMDR's to my name. Looking forward to adding to it. I won't waste any time asking for cargo, I will just blow you out of space!

Piracy I could understand in ED if you could ransom the pilot. Most pirates are in small ships (vipers etc) and they have no cargo space anyway. The ability to ransom (transfer cash to the pirate or die) would make pirating legitimate and profitable. And dont tell me transferring cash is a big change. The 'luxuries wanted' guys can magic cash into your account and commodities out of your hold

It is a big change. Once you can transfer credits you open the gates to commercial gold sellers.

Want to make piracy profitable? Buff NPC cargo drops.

You'll never make pvp piracy anywhere close to being as profitable as trading no matter how you buff the tools. It's a zero-sum game as all pvp piracy money comes from trading, and traders can shut it all off by switching to solo. PVP piracy is an end and not a means, you can't double dip on this one.

@ OP; declaring Pirates to be Cowards in your opening barrage, yes, barrage, is counter-productive. Especially coming as it does, from a person claiming to be bringing clarity and objectivity to the subject.

This thread is another example of, <deleted>

Oh well, never mind. Half the folk here are very different to the other half. That ain't gonna be changing anytime soon and I pity FD, having to deal with both. I trust them to make the game that THEY want and to largely ignore most, if not all of the rubbish spouted in here.

The reality is that you have no choice but to resign yourself to the fact that a NPC can and will shoot and try to kill you for no reason.

If acceptable behaviour for a npc why can't it be so for a player.
But that really shouldn't be acceptable behavior for the NPC's, it's bad programming/game design.

When I was mining NPC's would scan me, and go "bah, you got nothing" and fly away. If I had goods they would say "drop it or die!" and attack. I liked that, as it made sense.

Then I started exploring with empty cargo holds, and no warrants, or anything and NPC's stared interdicting me and tried killing me on sight for NO REASON, and that ruined the illusion that these were motivated pirates, instead if dim witted psychos.

You will not get me to take your bait. Do just that. No one should care. Feel free to have temper tantrums all you like. Consider me the galaxy, I don't care either.

And PvP oriented players wonder why people think PvP should be even more heavily constrained and discouraged and why the demands that the game be rebalanced around that small aspect of the game is met with indifference.

<REDACTED>, I'm a pirate. That is a class that was advertised by the company that made this game. Yet, it is broken from a PvP standpoint. Don't hate on me for it, hate on the company.

If a game advertises something, they should deliver on it.

yeha I agree with this.

All other player roles can make money from NPCs alone but with piracy it's not going to happen until the NPCs traders
carry more then Grain or other worthless stuff.

They advertised it to me, that's the only reason I'm here. If they didn't and if they had advertised the game as PvE then I would never have spent my money here.

Who is wrong or who is right? I don't care, but I will get my money's worth out of this game now that they did this to me. I will kill every player I see regardless of what ship they are in.

Budget? Risk? Why can't ED make me a sammich?

Mostly because theu're not a sandwich shop but a game designer. And as such they should design a game that offers the mechanisms for player interactions. The ability to form player contracts is one such crucial game mechanics. And in order to have player contracts you need player to player credit transfers.

Does that help your understanding ?

Then you accept the fact that you are not, nor have even been a pirate, right? You don't want to role play a pirate. You don't need the money from pirating. You simply enjoy killing human players, because NPC's do not care that you killed them. The don't feel angry about it.

But you enjoy the thought of some human growling and cursing at his computer screen. Hence you are a griefer, because you aren't driven by greed, money, factions, etc. Only the enjoyment of in someone off.

Blame the sand.

So if your sandcastle falls down then go around kicking over everyone else castles too.

Where, in any of Frontier's advertising for the game, does it say that any of the roles will be exclusively (or even mainly) carried out against other players?

Passive aggressive snarking rarely helps understanding or anything else.

Ok I'll bite. If player contracts ala EVE is implemented and the inevitable flood of credit farmers, account hijackers, and money scammers come along, you want FD to maintain a staff out of the generosity of their hearts to keep that in check? You really expect the full services of an MMO for a one time payment?
