Came across this while hunting at an Extraction Site. Scary stuff!

It's a glitch: I found my rebuy cost to be acceptable for a little experiment and flew into it.
The Asteroids just disappeared in a fairly big bubble around me. Still, a nice sight.
I hope it doesn't get ironed out
(Eh, my videomaking-fu hasn't been too good here. Sorry for that)

imho about 600ly above/below galaxy galactic equator. go even higher, its very nice. colourfull galaxy in front of you and almost no stars above you.

to OP: i think it yhould be bug, post it.

go to LHS 3447 and open the map. See that Coalsack Nebula in the distance? Plot a route towards it and travel as far as you can. Then, learn about Fuel Scoops :)
Scrap exploration plans for the time being and find a system to settle for a while. That's my whereabouts, quite on the fringe. Although I have plans to move "south", closer to Empire.

I've seen a number of belts like this. I would be very surprised if it is a bug. There are also suns out there that spin at crazy speeds.
