Small suggestion to heavily reduce collisions in and around space station...

Can we please add landing lights on to the hull of all ships which come on automatically when you are closing on a space station (perhaps they come on once you have docking permission and also when leaving launch pad). Have them flash nice and brightly! :D

Wouldn't this help avoid players running into those large shadowy NPC ships coming in or out of the letterbox?

if your leaving then throttle back.... i have no problem seeing incoming.......if your on about entry ....and boosting cos im smuggling.... then no lights wont make alot of difference.....splat is what happens either way. if your not smuggling....then no i have eyes and can see the black hole in the letterbox

Yep, I'm ok personally, worst I've done is afterburner'd into back of space station or when leaving landing pad in station :D Never had a fatal collision yet (touch wood!).

But I am continually coming across posts of folks crashing into NPC ships and personally still had very close shaves with NPC ships which are grey'sh in colour coming through the letter box (out) upon a similarly coloured backdrop which does make them hard to make out...

When aware and awake collisions don't happen but they do happen plenty still and that, I think, is due to players being a little drowsy and tired doing trading runs in the wee morning hours...here the flashing landing lights would alert them to the obvious which you miss when tired. Its for that I am asking for it.

We should also have the ability to switch them on/off fullstop as per other modules, just in case we don't want to attract undue attention to ourselves :)

The headlights are ok, but what I tend to do is use my scanner and look out for the 'selectable diamonds' ... when I see something selectable I select it to see what it is ... I also travel fairly slowly through the slot, just in case!!

Ok...but the above is all true when you are half awake and aware isn't it?

I'm really talking about the benefits to sleepy or distracted pilots...who forget to switch on head lights...NPCs would need to have headlights always enabled for it to be of any help to players...but how often have you lifted off in a station looked up saw nothing and then woah! where did that come from? Flashing lights on ship wings, on top and below would really make a difference at that all important first glance?

Why do they use them in RL otherwise?

I've got my lights bound to a joystick button. However, I apologise to those who've soiled themselves as I've shot through the slot with full afterburner. I was in a hurry to get to the toilet and in no way was I attempting to avoid scans by the space scuffers.

Radar's good if a pilot is awake and aware - if the pilot is in a drowsy autopilot mode the pilot wont pay too much attention to it?

My view is the best way to reduce collisions is to pay attention and not go through the access port unless it's clear. Those "large shadowy NPC ships" show up just fine on the scanner.

Don't fly spacecraft when you're drowsy?

Sage advice :D But I would offer that most of us pilots usually start a little tired from the day and often are not on until mid-to-late evening?
