I think we should keep things formal. How about, "Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to extend my felicitous greetings to you as we find ourselves in close proximity within the vast inky void of space. Your faithfully, Cmdr [yourname]"
Sound good? If need be, that can be compressed to the handy easy acronym, "DSoMIWLTEMFGTYAWFOICPWTVIVoSYFC[your initial]". Perfectly clear and understandable, if you ask me![]()

Not everyone who says Hoi in their mother tongue is Dutch.
Also, Orson Scott Card.
Hoi!!! (but not everyone is Dutch indeed)
I usually go with "hand over teh l00t!"
I keep finding people using far too many words to say Hello to others in-game or being far too formal.
So how about "Hoi"
If you want really want to type in "Greetings CMDR" then keep doing it.
Dude, you're overreacting.People can call me anything I dont mind......but....if someone calls me "dude" I will deploy my hardpoints. I never have been, or ever will be a "dude". Grumpy old git, yes, miserable old B*stard, yes, but not dude.
