Hoi

I think we should keep things formal. How about, "Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to extend my felicitous greetings to you as we find ourselves in close proximity within the vast inky void of space. Your faithfully, Cmdr [yourname]"

Sound good? If need be, that can be compressed to the handy easy acronym, "DSoMIWLTEMFGTYAWFOICPWTVIVoSYFC[your initial]". Perfectly clear and understandable, if you ask me :)

Forwarded this on to the designers to make it official (I didnt).

"DSoMIWLTEMFGTYAWFOICPWTVIVoSYFCZ"

Yes! That's it!

I suggest "Ahoy hoy", which was very nearly the greeting anyway. Actually, I don't suggest that at all - I usually find that the vast, deep black has enough space for me to type a short message without hitting something. I already feel old enough without sounding like Mr Burns :D

Also, Orson Scott Card.

True, though on the other hand... Orson Scott Card

Not entirely sure what the goal of this thread is. In the words of OP: If you really want to type in "Hoi", then keep doing it? :p

Personally, I think it's most atmospheric and thus immersive to chat how your character would, so obviously it'd depend on their role and "degree of professionalism", as well as possibly their culture. :)

The only thing I deem anti-climatic is the salutes or smileys so popular in the chat. Matter of preferences, I suppose.

I keep finding people using far too many words to say Hello to others in-game or being far too formal.

So how about "Hoi"

If you want really want to type in "Greetings CMDR" then keep doing it.

I prefer Howdy Commander! (But I've been known to say Greetings or other salutations)

We could also use binary:

01000111 01110010 01100101 01100101 01110100 01101001 01101110 01100111 01110011 00100000 01100011 01101111 01101101 01101101 01100001 01101110 01100100 01100101 01110010 00100000 01101000 01101111 01110111 00100111 01110011 00100000 01101001 01110100 00100000 01100111 01101111 01101001 01100111 01101110 00111111

It's also quite understandable and you only need two keys...

I find that the following works (or doesn't):
Ok your clean commander, drop your cargo or I frameshift out of here...

- impersonating a drunk NPC for over 6 weeks...

People can call me anything I dont mind......but....if someone calls me "dude" I will deploy my hardpoints. I never have been, or ever will be a "dude". Grumpy old git, yes, miserable old B*stard, yes, but not dude.
