Basic Starter Cobra MkIII

About Earl Grey, black:
100% agree .. only true way of enjoying tea as a Starship Captain :)
Good, at least someone here respects tradition!

A few years ago, I thought that by the time Elite 4 came out, I'd be as bald as the Captain. Now, it seems that I'll still have some hair atop my head, but I'll still be drinking Earl Grey.

Bald is good. Bald is soothing.

Don't hit a asteroid or you get coffee all over your self . Then have it float would be a pain in the rear.

If people are going to insist on having tea, they should do it properly... will we have a teapot?

As for the floral pattern, perhaps, but surely it should be willow pattern. We don't need fancy indicator lights on a kettle, just go for an old fashioned whistling kettle.

Ok, so we have established that there will be a hot beverage dispenser of some description, however...

I forgot to mention the bumper sticker: "My other ship is a Fer de Lance"

Do we get a sun visor strip with our commander name on it?

I want my space kettle to whistle the Blue Danube when its boiling. Here is a thought though. what happens to steam in Zero G... we all pretty much know how water behaves but how would steam behave coming from a kettle in zero-G? :p

Pretty much the same it does in a gravity environment, I guess... the kettle would have to be locked to the oven somehow, though, or the steam would function as a thruster for the kettle. ;)

The steam could not be allowed to float freely in the cabin space. Rather, it would be safely directed along some tubing system into the pilot's chair to make it comfortably warm...

There should be just enough to survive with dignity and go to the neighboring star system to hope to sell something. Such is the beginning in Elite, according to tradition

 :)

Not sure the Whistling Kettle will be popular with all players here. There seems to be lots of forumites who don't like Steam! AHAHA HAHA HA! ahem.

Not sure about that - 0:25 "hot air doesn't rise".

Looks like this vid confirms it. You'd end up with a hot liquid around a core of scalding steam. So maybe I'll stick to microwaving my tea and drinking it luke warm.

Not enough backup coffee machines :(

I'd only need 3 backup coffee machines, But I'd also need 3 backup Yorkshire tea machines, totaling 8 drinks machines, of the non-alcoholic type, I'd also need a few real ale machines, and brandy ones, and whisky ones...

Damn no space for weepoons, and cargo.... Oh well needs must.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Try reading The Mote in God's Eye by Niven and Pournelle if you want to see this fixation on coffee in an actual sci-fi book! There's literally mention of coffee in every chapter in that thing!

Come to think of it, that book really does remind me of the Empire in a lot of ways. Very feudal, militaristic space empire. No slavery that I know of. :p
