Repairs - not all stations make good ones

At the moment every repair enabled station can fully repair your ship regardless of the stations tech level and repair crew expertise.

I'm suggesting that low tech systems should not be able to repair much of your high tech equipment.

Hit REPAIR ALL and sometimes the repair guys take your money but don't fix everything. They only fix what they know how to fix. Or sometimes they take your money for a repair yet make a bad repair and modules later fail or go unreliable in flight.

Experienced commanders will now use the little used repair section and select repair jobs considering the capability of the station to avoid giving the repair guys jobs they either won't do at all or do properly.

Maybe they also might reload ammunition with a type more likely to jam or fire inaccurately too.

Results:

Makes commanders fly about in weakened ships more often adding danger.

Adds a disadvantage to owning expensive high tech kit.

Many commanders and NPCs in so called 'invincible' ships would be sometimes be vulnerable when forced into warping from system to system in a damaged condition looking for a capable repair outfit.

Makes having a repair module more worthwhile.

Actually in one of the live streams last year I remember Michael Brookes & co talking about a fleshed out NPC contact system in which you would know an NPC who had certain skills. The example he gave was knowing the location of someone who could tune lasers better than others.

Not sure if it's something still on the cards or if it's hit the cutting room floor.
 
Commanders with high tech ships have little to fear when they are always at 100% health. Always able to repair anywhere pretty much. These Nay sayers are cowards.

Make elite dangerous for everyone, even for the top ranks from time to time.

Most of the time your damage level per module is low anyway, so what are you worried about? Try not repairing stuff every dock, still frightened are you?

Commanders can control risks by staying near high tech facilities if they are really scared.

Also almost all ships that you see look brand new. Paint repair should be hard to find.

Allied and friendly repair stations are more honest with you, neutrals less so maybe some factions even sabotage or steal your modules if you just REPAIR ALL.

This could be a reason to dislike a faction, coz they robbed you.
 
More stations without repairs would have a similar effect and be just as undesirable, methinks

More stations without repairs is bad for all players. Tech level based repairs competency only effects higher tech equipment found on experianced players ships.

REPAIR ALL lovers should ask for the repair section to be removed from the game, coz they don't ever use it. They could replace it with a option to

external view of their always freshly painted undamaged ship after it has been 100% repaired again.

Even better would be if the mechanics behind this system were entirely opaque so that players had to pool information online about which stations seemed to effectively run each bit of repair. With a little randomization thrown in these online systems would be prone to error and there would be disputes about which site was trustworthy and which was bullocks. And best of all would be the threads posted by players angry because just after meticulously repairing their Python according to their understanding of the system, ended up in total loss because another player in a freewinder sideswiped them in the letterbox!

Imagine this a REPAIR ALL lover commander docks at an anarchy station. Undocks and later in combat deploys weapons only to find someone has nicked one of his A rated weapons (coz it was nicer than mine, so the repairman thought.) Goes back to the station and, there is the weapon for sale, or it's gone. Reason for war?

What's a repair all lover? I think you've just described the majority of players in the game. Who doesn't repair all? Kudos for suggesting some spectacular game breaking ideas that would make playing it miserable for anyone in anything bigger than a Viper.
 
What whingers and cowards. REPAIR ALL lovers are those that REPAIR ALL every dock and want the game to allow that for everyone everytime.
