City lights coming to planet dark sides

Some early concept art appeared in a 2013 newsletter

night side lighting was in the newsletter quite a while ago now, its nothing new and if you hunt for it you'll even find concept art of what it may look like.

Edit: Ninja'd with style ;) +1 to you dude, i couldn't be bothered to hunt for the images.

Yea mentioned early on in dev...was wondering if its gonna make it in game...hope so, we need people walkin around stations and signs of life in pop. systems..anything to add realism n immersion is a + in my book...

This will be awesome!
.
But I wonder.... will they be the yellowish orange of the current general standard sodium lights? Would we plausibly still have those in the future?
.
I'm old enough to remember flying over cities that looked more like the starry constellations at night, with all of the many white home and street lights... versus the more modern, energy efficient (at the time) yellowish sodium lights. Which are even now in some places being replaced by the "new new" modern LED lights of even greater efficiency, moving us back to the more bluish/white tone (http://la.curbed.com/archives/2014/...lights_are_changing_the_way_movies_look_1.php).
.
Regardless, lights on a planet are a great thing and will make me nostalgic for... home.
.
+1 for more little touches like this, devs.

I want to land on one of the planets and have my own hanger/Home there. :(

I think that would be to much for the game.

It would massive amounts to the game though. If my home base was at a world then you can bet I would be doing a lot to keep the system clear of pirates. You would have in game neighbours, etc... i think it would be an awesome idea.

where is NeilF when you need them? His/her list of suggested addon flavor content was mind blowingly awesome.

It will also visually show if a planet is inhabited which is cool. Right now you have no idea unless checking system info.

This will be a very cool addition. All those dark planets, especially when they have billions of inhabitants can be a little jarring.

I'd love it if the hue of the lighting were different for each faction also.

yellow-white and grid-like for federation
ice-blue or pale green-white and circular for empire
strongly yellow for independant
