Actually, after being sent by the Empire League faction to the conflict, I discovered that the zone is actually between to independent factions... Had no idea which one the league wanted me to pick...

I did the same. If it says "warzone" I think it doesn't matter. It might have a negative effect on some local factions where you got the mission though.
