Am I the only person NOT playing with a TrackIr or OR?

It seems like every video I see of people playing ED has them looking around in the cockpit with a TrackIR (or similar).
Since I am poor and "Married with Children", I wonder if I'm missing out on much, or whether I am handicapped in some way while playing for not having one...?
Is it worth the cost?

I've got some savings which I am holding onto for the Consumer release of OR (I ally debated whether to get the DK, then the DK2, but decided it would be best to wait for the actual thing instead).
Is there any point getting a TrackIR if I'm going to eventually get a Rift?

I'm waiting for the consumer oculus rift as well (though it's getting more and more difficult to hold out). In the mean time, I'm using an xbox 360 controller and using the right analog stick to look around works great!

No you are not alone there, i'm trying hard to resist buying the rift yet. Although as soon as the finished version is ready, i will buy it forsure, but until then i'm happy using my tv (old Panasonic plasma 42")

anyone know when the finished version of the rift is coming out?

I'm playing with just our living room TV as a single monitor, 360 pad, and Voice Attack when it won't disturb anybody, keyboard otherwise, and I don't really intend to change anytime soon.

Alas, I am locked to the forward stare as well. but it isn't really a hinderance just as long as one don't try and mess it up with someone who do have TrackIR, OR-DK2 or for that matter a three monitor setup.

Though naturally, I am itching to get TrackIR right here and now. My bank-account however says that whilst noodles are fine, it isn't really something you want to eat for a week, is it now?!

:p

Waiting for OR CV. I have had TiR for many years though and triple monitors/TiR for the last couple of years. Just starting over now with two monitors and no TiR. Hopefully OR CV is out soon. :)

In my first two weeks in ED I played it without TrackIR. Then I remembered I had bought an TrackIR 5 years ago for Rise of Flight. I haven't played a flight sim for years and had nearly forgotten about my TrackIR.

TrackIR increases immersion and helps a lot in dog fights or during take off and landing. I wouldn't like to play ED without TrackIR anymore now that I have used it.

The big question is though, will you get OR and completely immerse (sit inside for "realz") yourself in the cockpit? :)

Thanks @scorpyon. ;)

I just couldn't imagine playing without my Track IR. Okay, started with KB/M. Then came the Track IR, then the X55 Rhino and then Voice Attack....

This is proving nearly as expensive as Doom was (had to buy a PC to play that), not to mention the original Elite (had to buy a C64 for that) and of course Skyrim, which necessitated a new super-duper PC.

Costly hobby, but worth every penny.

No TrackIR, no VR here either. Every time I "circle" the orbit of the outermost-discovered planet in a system to double-check there isn't another one, the freeview pulled up toward the cockpit top, I am happy I don't have to actually sit there with my head toward the ceiling. :-D

Seriously though. As nice as VR might be, it's well off the price/enjoyment chart for me. Plus, I get up regularly (for another cup of caf, or a trip to the necessities, or whatever), and having to untangle from the VR goggles every time... nah.

Also, I like to remain addressable for the wife and the kids. I'd feel like a real jerk with those VR goggles on...

I'd love to try both of them, and I'm sure they help with situational awareness and immersion. And probably improve your dogfighting in cockpits that have nice wide views (like Asps and Clippers). But I can't stand to wear anything on my head. Even for voice comms, I use in-ear buds with a mic on the ear wire of one bud. Headphones of any type drive me nuts, and I'm not about to wear a trucker hat on my head while gaming, lol. Or... ever. :)

I've never owned a TrackIR nor OR because they're incompatible with my girlfriend. ;)

Not trying to make a dig at people who use these being the unsociable types, I just mean that she would give me some really funny looks! I'm getting a new joystick soon though that has a POV switch on the top that I'm going to use for freelooking. Right now I'm using a Logitech Attack3. It's just what I have (I've had it for a long time now) and its reliability is still extremely admirable. I'm quite proud of it.

I don't have either of those things, and as far as streamers with their OR, TURN OFF YOUR CAMERAS you look like idiots.

We will see what the consumer version of OR will be, but the devkit running around 350 dollars isnt too bad. When i first checked what it would cost i thought it was one of those 1000 bucks peripherals. If OR CV lands around 300 bucks most people will be able to afford it. Hope it doesnt go up much. Track IR is awesome, but actually sitting inside the ship will be even better. I have watched VR evolve since the 90s when they said its just around the corner for gaming. :D I even tested a VR prototype at a exibition at that time and was blown away. Graphics was like in the 80s almost with stuff flying around your head. Basically standing on a blue "platform" and see things flying around at various heights. And now you can sit in ED's cockpits with this graphics... Epic stuff. Just need the 1080p or higher version to come out hehe. :)
