Chris Roberts speaks in the first Games Masterclass (video is 2.5 hours long) at BAFTA in LA, yesterday:

Watching it now. Quite interesting so far listening to him talking about his previous games. (15min in)

Yes, indeed. He has a long CV with both games and film making.

Lots of interesting slides in the speech. The image BOT posted above is an example of this. I think it's the first time he's publicly set a release date for Star Citizen, in 2016. He said that in an interview before too, but I haven't seen it in writing until now. But it was a bit disappointing that the first episode (10 missions) of Squadron 42 is pushed to the fall, when it originally was scheduled for this spring. But I'm fine with that, really. The important thing to me is that they do it right.

Ok so the PTU is nothing more then a testing area for AC but by adding U to it they make it seem like its more. So we now have a testing version of the test version of AC? So will we get a test version of the test version of the test version? If CIG are releasing a test version of AC that means that CIG think that AC is more finished/polished then just merely a testing bed like people thought.

I know what you're getting at but it's actually a good thing. So many people seem unable to deal with the volatility of testing, this method allows those people to get something to play prior to release while those who more into testing get to do their bit. The only thing that's really important (to my mind) is who gets to influence game design decisions.

Offcourse it was polished I was always saying that AC for me seems more like broken beta....Trilions of poly's,pbr&great gfx detail's in alpha that is what was important for CR...But the main problem still stand now even more concerning then ever before, more than 1 year passed of first dfm (AC later)and their so called tweaking of the Crytek engine is silly, game can't function properly with few players per instance with small map's,FM are the same in my opinion boring&arcadish with no tactical imagination what so ever....Now as I see CR will pull new white rabbit from his magic hat and try to make backers happy with the FPS part,no doubt in my mind that FPS should work just find but still can't see many players per map even there, so I expect no more than 12-16 players(at most),and yeah multicrew ships..heh...summer 2015,that sound a bit optimistic but yeah it could work with the 2 seaters I guess....

Thanks for the video link. I was looking for it earlier but couldn't find it. :)

As for the delays, I think everyone familiar with CIG knows at this point to add in a little fudge factor to all their release date estimates. It is what is is. And I agree - as long as the finished product is well done no one is going to care a couple of years from now if SQ 41 Ep 1 was pushed back a few months.

I downloaded the PTU, but haven't fired it up yet. I'm pretty tolerant of beta code, but we'll see if it's too raw for even my tastes. lol.

I think it will be good for some of the dedicated Twitch streamers like WTFOSAURUS who stream for hours per day putting up with things like the broken missiles. Now they have the choice of the Pre-Alpha or Beta-Pre-Alpha :), depending on which is more stable.

@ 1:00 do you know what ship that is?

Looks a bit like the rear end of a constellation, but it can't be lol. So I'm guessing the Mustang or the Aurora. I cannot be sure though since it looks really weird.

Yup, the Aurora's ass :)

I thought it might have been a sneak peek at one of the bigger ships.

I don't intend to get involved in this conversation but I just wanted to say, as someone who has loved space games since the good ole' JumpGate days, that SC looked absolutely amazing at the beginning. However, as time moves on I just see more and more greed. The level to which that game is being bled out kind of disgusts me, and has absolutely killed my interest in it. It's really disappointing to see that even after surpassing their kickstarter goals they're still charging an arm and a leg for even the most minor items. In all honesty, as much as I want to play it, I also kind of want to see it flop badly. If pricing models in MMOs continue to raise at such an exponential rate it's going to be impossible to play one without investing hundreds of dollars. Hell, I've *already* spent hundreds on an MMO, and have known people who have spent thousands. It's absolutely ludicrous, I have no idea who is deciding a few bits of code to be worth your yearly salary.

if you understand fractal theories MMo's are the perfect example. The creators want to show you something incredible but after a while it becomes educational and the creators have to keep up with the students who learn fast. After while the new guy hops in the game overwhelmed and has no desire to play. Then the creators hire players to rig the game make it so hard it is practically umplayable kind of the same thing as something fractal. Anyone can sell their house and buy a farari but is it practical and is there a purpose? MMo's are a paradigm shift what you describe is reverse causality look at it head on you see the game creators have a lot of power and with great power comes responsibility and they are chained to the desires of the customer who wants to flee responsibility. The reality is fractal.

I agree. Hopefully they'll keep the main trunk builds polished well enough so that it servers the purpose of demoing the game and giving the less masochistic testers a fun experience. :)

I did fool around with the PTU a bit this evening. For the most part it's the same, but there are some graphical additions that I've noticed (missile HUD elements denoting where warheads are for one), plus some flight model changes to the Avenger at least.

TrackIR still has issues in that its detached from the helmet. I was hoping they'd fix that.

Yeah....great idea. Let's cut the prices on everything. Let's reward new backers for holding off 2 years and screw old backers who have been here since the beginning. You're a genius.

They did kind of do that, or do you not remember the $20 packages. Or the return of LTI. Or selling the racing suit that they told everyone was only in the Lightspeed package, yet it was added to the store as a stand alone item later, twice, even after they said they would not do it again.

I was playing PTU last night. Am I supposed to experience something new or ? Because, it's the same as AC. Like, really, what's the difference ?

Honestly I am not even going to bother to try so called PTU,untill I see something new&refreshing that is been added 2 it,otherwise i am done with usless propaganda from CIG and not falling anymore on that cheap tricks.....The real reason why they invent PTU is just to gain more time nothing else, now we will have new procedure first PTU testing and than patching on regular alpha luncher I mean c'mon....
