Seen lots of posts about the shield potions, so I thought I would do a poll to see what the general 'feel' is about them.

I think I've put enough options in the poll to be useful.

Diversity is good. More module options encourages diversity. Shield Cell Banks are a module. This makes Shield Cell Banks (Ugh, that term 'potions') a good concept.

It's just the current implementation is wonky.
 
This isn't directed at the OP, more all the knee-jerkers in general....
How about we trust the devs to tweak things so they take skill to use instead of asking them to reduce the options we have in game....?

Devs mention "balance", community tacks on "PvP"
Devs talk about adjusting things so they fit their intended purpose, community tacks on "Nerf".
Devs continue to asses the reality compared to their original design goals, community tacks on "amateur", like they expect everything in such a large and interconnected design to be perfect first time.

I'm indifferent on the issue.

Personally, I think the problem isn't the shield cell banks. I like the option of giving Commanders the option of having a ship that heavily favors defense.

The problem is that there isn't a variety of combat-oriented internal components. Once you've equipped a shield generator and maybe a FSD interdictor, what else do you equip? Maybe a field-maintenance unit (which can't fix the most vital systems anyways)? Unless you want a cargo rack, your only choice is to fill up on shield cell banks.

We simply need a wider variety of internal components for all roles, so that Commanders have to weigh the pros and cons of bringing one as opposed to another. We need internal ammo bays and a cooling system for lasers. We need systems that can repair hull damage, and systems that can increase the max range of weapons. Once there's a variety, we'll see less shield cell banks being brought into fights.

Don't you have to create the post first, and add the poll later? I've never really bothered creating a poll on this board, since they're by nature fatally flawed. A proper poll is given to a randomized selection of the population being polled. Internet forum polls are given to a tiny minority of a game's players, and responders are self selected as well.

SCB' s are wonderfull !! Its just like " magic mile extender" i use on my car : its fabulous :)
Next we will see Laser Cell Banks, Range cell Banks, Power plant cell banks, Cell cell banks :D
Love it :) !! Why not Ship enlarger cell banks = fly a Ana for 2 minutes !!

This. Someone suggested in the big thread to change SCBs into universal capacitator recharges. I.e. you use one, and it replenishes a fixed amount of capacitator power into your distributor system. So it doesn't recharge shields directly, but the SYS, ENG and WPN bars.

Why take it so seriously? It's just a Poll!

That said I would love a FSD Cell Bank that boosts your single jump range by a factor of 10, oh and a super scan cell bank that scans a planet in 1 second! Awesome!

I'm not to bothered about all the insta-boost ideas, but it does seem to spoil the flow of the physics. maybe add a module that boosts cap recharge rate for bank x by x amount. I don't like the idea of shields instantly going from 20% to 100%, up until then shields always had to charge.

I guess when nasty Aliens come along and want to shoot me rather than trade, I think I would use a cap boost charge for my shields/sys though, when there is no option to repair you ship 30,000ly away you don't want to take damage!
 
Magic shield cells need to go.

IMO shield cells are horrible.

Seriously, they just need to be removed from the game. They may have seemed like a good idea on paper and whoever championed the idea will most likely have hurt feelings but, they really really need to be deleted from ED. Magic potions belong in D&D / Pokeman not ED.

Also. any thoughts of weapon cells or engine cells should be axed.

An alternative *maybe* would be; a one time shot with shield cells and that they cost half what insurance for you ship would be.

But I don't get the "magic potion" meme. Other space games have similar modules.

For example, in EvE, you have Cap Boosters: "these mid-slot modules use cap booster charges to inject a temporary amount of power into the capacitor". Would you consider them "magic potions" as well?
 
I don't think they need to be removed, but they tend to be a little overpowered at present. Maybe make them one-shot or a bigger fitting/power cost. Something substantial.
