Thanks for all the fish

Well I didn't think this would happen, or rather realize it could...

I've been playing since release. Had a bunch of time off work and managed to get a Clipper fairly tricked out. 2.1M re-buy cost. Been enjoying myself. Tonight I was on my way to drop off a cargo hold full of Palladium and had a quest to kill two pirates. I had about 3 million wrapped up in the palladium. So, as you can maybe imagine, against better judgement, i dropped into a nav point to smash two pirates. Pirates smashed, I was about to fire up the drive to head off and deliver my goods, when I hit what I can only assume was the nav beacon. It wasn't a ship. It looked very small in the single frame i witnessed before hitting it. Anyway, my ship was instantly destroyed. Clipper. 1.6million dollar c6 shied. 1.something million dollar power distro. Instantly destroyed.

So it seems I've lost everything. The screen I'm left at tells me the max loan available is 200k, and if I like I can have a free Sidewinder. I'm more sad about this than anything, but I can't accept losing the last month of progress. Enjoy the game for me. Happy hunting.

ciao for now

Dude! Gutting! If its any consolation from your example I have learned never to go against my better judgement for any reason in the future, so you've potentially saved this Cmdr's bacon. Probably not any consolation, but still.

Come back in a few months when there's a shedload more waiting for you, and no doubt you'll have the urge to get back in that sidey and get going :)

You decided to go pirate hunting, uninsured, in a clipper?

Last night I was rammed and killed by a pirate Clipper. Had insurance.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Maybe head to the goons palladium give away tomorrow around 3pm pst?

Nav beacon should probably bounce around instead of being an immovable object that causes instant death, reminds me of the volleyball nets in GTA5 that you can't drive under and are like a brick wall.

Yet if you only decided to undock with insurance you would be only out your cargo. Responsibility, common sense... If you do plan on returning in the future I recommend you remember to bring it as well.

This is inevitable if you can go for weeks and months trading and grinding without any risk of loosing your ship. When it does finally happen, you'll think 'sod that'.

The fact that you can fly around with millions of credits of cargo and the only thing that kills you is a nav beacon, kind of says it all.

If only you knew about Insurance. Oh, wait, you did and yet... :S

I don't think I did. I had used it accidentally once in the beginning when I managed to destroy a hauler. It covered the cost. I went in the red and paid it off eventually. I haven't had a similar mishap since and didn't realize there was anything I had to do. I guess I assumed that if the worst happened, I would owe a galactic loan shark a few million and then work to pay it off. Had I known I would certainly have had proper insurance sufficient to cover the ship I've spent the last month working to get. To say I feel stupid currently is a mountain sized under statement.

Ha, they had those all the way back in GTA 3 with indestructible shrubs, you'd think a few billion dollars later they'd fix it.

You havent lost everything, experience, faction rep, the fun you had playing, combat status.

This game shouldnt be a grind to x ship or y credits. Appreciate the journey.

And I dont know how many times Ive typed this.

DONT FLY WITHOUT INSURANCE.

Still bet you had a rush that split second as you exploded, wish I could have seen your face!

Dont give up come back tomorrow and play easy, go explore or something for a bit.

he seemed surprised the max loan was only 200, did he think they would cover the entire 2.1 million? It's always the peaceful space-truckers that have never lost a ship, when they suddenly do they learn how insurance ACTUALLY works in this game.

Your vitriol is unappreciated. I was unaware.

I was ignorant to the specifics of the mechanic. I didn't realize there was anything required of me. I could have bought it many times over i guess.

yes but i understand.
before play i do all tutorial . fight and landing tutorial. and i know insurrance because i read in forum.
but for many beginner, i think game need give more information. perhaps a tutorial about death ? with mini scenario ?

My pride and joy Cobra clipped a nav beacon and my ship was totalled.

I play Ironman so I wiped my save and started again- death is death for me, despite having lots of money.

The funny thing is the second time round I have experimented more and had just as much fun trading my way up in various ways. But come back in a week after the sting has gone- you will feel better for it.
