I just got murdered

It's been a while since I posted here, I was one of the complainers about low level module scarcity and the lack of a multi jump route system- and am glad both of these things made it into the game.
I've been playing hard and having a really fun time and have had many memorable experiences within this wonderful game world with only a few things that have detracted from the experience (the buggy branching missions for example)
I worked hard getting and tricking out my cobra before working for my asp... I've only had it for a day and was trying to get to grips with just how heavy it is and wanted to do another day or so of rare trading and missions in the Lave system to get modules for my exodus to the one of the nebulae "nearby".

Then blew myself up by throttling too hard when exiting a spacestation and clipping the letterbox.
oh well, about 50 ton of rares and a whole bunch of bounties and exploration data lost, as well as the missions that I was ticking off... Yeah it cost me dear and knocked me down to 200k but I got back on the horse and tried to recoup my losses.

Jumped to Zaonce and got jumped by a "harmless" asp CMDR who was anything but! No warnings, no threats he just opened fire and I got my asp kicked... Then the police showed up AS WELL as another CMDR.
"wow" this was shaping up to be another story, my shields were down, my canopy had blown but I MIGHT just survive this, and would have done so with the help of another nice commander (also piloting an asp)
nah, he just opened up on me with quad missiles. Deadz.

i stared at the screen in a shock filled rage and saw my insurance screen with a big red button to declare bankruptcy or scrap a load of my expensive gear so the loan would cover my ship.

So I sucked it up, chose to keep only the most expensive modules which I then sold or replaced along with my asp hull. Went to get my old trusty cobra which, incidentally, I had never died in and was stored in Zaonce of all places (yeah, I was checking all the players in the system) and I have decided to earn some more capital before changing ships again and keep my old ship with all its systems intact.

However, selling my asp got my about 7 million, and you know what?
If I could put that down as a galaxy wide bounty on the one who did this to me I would!
In a heartbeat!

Sorry for your loss. I agree that those psycho killers do not necessarily make the game more enjoyable (unlike let's say getting pirated, which is a whole different thing). Especially when they team up to get you. Things might get worse once wings get implemented in 1.1.

Btw, the thing that every CMDR shows up as 'harmless' is a bug. They most likely are not harmless.

I'd also like to see the option to put a bounty on a player but to make sure this isn't being exploited, it should only be possible to put bounties on players that previously killed you.

Btw, did you try to run or fight back?

I do think we should be able to put bounties on people.
The objection is that it is open to abuse, but I think if done simply it would even out and solve a lot of problems. At the end of the day Open play is for "anything goes", it has to be the most unrestricted group by default so it can be a foundation for others to then form groups that have the playstyle limitations they want.
But there needs to be risk/reward mechanisms for the PvP side of things as well as the PvE. Not to punish PvE, but to make it part of the equation.
The bounty idea would work.

I have pm'd you

I chatted with a wanted asp cmdr there yesterday. He did not want to take me on as I am in a cobra and did not want to chase me But ran when I tried/failed to interdict him

Penalties for murder are not serious enough. Killing a player should be a major offense compared to an NPC.

I propose the following:
Killing Players
- You may not pay off the bounty
- You may pay off the fine of accidentally shooting a player
- If you kill a player they should be able to kill you back without penalty (Fine or Bounty) N+1 times the victim has been killed. Player A kills Player B 5 times. Player B gets to kill Player A 6 times without penalty.

Needed Mechanics Changes
- Dropping connection makes you stay in the game for 10 minutes
- Logging off is the only safe way to make your ship exit the game
- Security forces in controlled space should respond based on faction. If I am Allied to a faction in the system and they control it I should expect to be very safe. Arrival and engagement time should be less than 10 seconds.

This is why I play in Solo there is too much freedom for jerk players to be jerks without good risk or penalty. Not going to deal with the frustration.

welcome to open play which people tend to forget its PVP sooner or later someone will catch up with you spoil your day - I play 100% solo at moment but will try open when I feel I am good and ready and prepared to die -

Btw, did you try to run or fight back?
Thankyou for the condolences :)
LOL, I was there with a kill warrant scanner absorbing the first few salvos with shield cells, then got into a panic when my shields dropped. But I have to admit the "harmless" rating threw me, if it said dangerous and above I would have high tailed it, but then he was in an Asp so I should have known better anyway.

the thing is, it made me very angry but as far as I'm concerned those are the rules or the game and I knew what I was signing up for, I just got a little complacent. But I meant what I said about the bounty, lol!

I suggested this in another thread. On the insurance rebuy screen you should have the dialogue "You were killed by CMDR xxx. Would you like to contribute towards their bounty? <Enter Amount>

Welcome to Elite: Dangerous!

Player set bounties would be glorious.

Man, you just released what I got in my soul... I want player set bounties NAO.

A tricky solution. Just imagine those guys would have placed a bounty on OP for fun. What would you propose to counter this?

What if he does not have a bounty? E.g. anarchy system?

I'm going to stick with my trusty cobra for now, the losses are a bit easier to swallow and yes, I think flying an Asp is like painting a target on your back :)

Misleading post or what! from someone who plays 100% in Solo?! It's post like this that once again are tainting peoples views of Open.

P.s I notice you didn't dwell on the accidentally smashing into the station part and losing everything - obvs due to Open PvP also?

Bounty on him! Or simply don't try to be a huge flying banana / don't try to attract attention < This prevents you from getting slaughtered.

101 of Real Life.

No matter how you turn it, Aleksej, sooner or later - at least with Wings incoming - there'll be groups to bash people. I'd be a good thing to set a bounty on them.

In my case, I'll have tons of fun being a bounty hunted pirate / psycho. Muhahaha.

It is a simulation.

If its not a bounty then it is a hit, Just make it that the hunter has to accept it at a black market. If the hunter dies then the person who sets the bounty gets punished in some way, Hunters could get a reputation score or similiar

The thing about player set bounties would be that the player setting it has to put up the cash...

Actually had a giggle early this morning. I try to say hello to people passing through by sending them "o7" to be friendly. The pilot was about to drop out of SC at a station, but instead shot off and jumped to another system. True I was right behind him coming from the nav point to collect bounties, so that's probably why he/she freaked out. So for those that may not know, o7 = salute/waving hello not runforyourlifeigonnakillyou.

Have a more cooperative play mindset.
