At least "ED sucks (or not)" discussion part of it :)

Initial reports on ED were all wowzers...now that the graphics etc has worn off and the people who work for the media outlets are becoming more familiar with the issues you are starting to see many more negative reviews then positive.

and the be all, end all..

Metacritic- 80/7.5 and falling for the last two weeks.

... and falling for the last two weeks.

Not at all, it was actually at 79% (critic press) in the last few days and has jumped up to 80% after a couple recent 90% reports from Pelit and GamesVillage. Last 2 reports have been 70% and 83%, net result as of today stays at 80%. It has always been so far around 80%, bit less, bit more, depending on the "weather" of the day.

Users seems to have stayed rock solid at 7.5 for a looooong time as far as I can see.

Elite is probably one of the more stable scoring games, and after around 38 reviews in metacritic it is alredy pointing to a game that will probably remain around the 75-85 bracket in the end.

Can't we stop that? Telling complete lies to suit your point? You don't like game, you are disappointed - fine, it's all ok I guess - but please, don't make this "ED sucks and there are falsified facts which support this POV". It always causes flames, you always lose.

I have to say guys. I've tried bounty hunting, mining and exploring. Bounty hunting I still enjoy but it really is the same thing again and again just like all the other ways to play this game. Mining really is very boring and such a time consuming part of the game. Exploration. Well, I've traveled to a few nebulae now and I'm trying to get some good exploration credits when I return to Sol but to be honest I'm so bored with that too. You pop into a system, use your advanced scanner. If you find earth like looking planets you take a closer look and surface scan them...same with high metal content planets. Oh, and some fuel scooping. After a while it really is a very laborious task and so monotonous. I do get the occasional piece of enjoyment whilst in the nebulae. Some of the scenes look great but that quickly passes once out of it.

I'm so far away from Sol at the moment I have to take a break from ED for about 4 days so I can get back to exploring. It does get very boring very quickly again. I can't imagine ever doing this again until something like planetary landings are in but even then I probably won't go far from Sol or one of the other founder planets again. Not unless there is a real reason to go further afield. There is literally nothing out there apart from planets. We may have a lot of systems to explore but 99.99% of them are a waste of time.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is trading. I can't imagine that to be a wow experience. Yes, I guess you can make money and purchase other ships which would be a bit of fun for some time.

I just hope there is a LOT more to come because I feel like I'm probably going to wait another 6 months or so before trying this again. I hope a lot of content gets injected over the next year or so.

Don't get me wrong. I really do want to like ED but at the moment it feels like a bones structure without much flesh...if any.

The good news is that, reviews or not, and as long as sales support it, it can only get better from there.

You really aren't paying attention. The sales aren't supporting it. THAT'S WHY THE COMPANY IS LOSING MONEY. Something has to change else the company will go bankrupt.

Be aware ffr likes to cherry pick certain aspects of certain statements to his particular interest and agenda while ignoring what does not seem to suit those. If you ask that from him he ll just cherry pick again.

Haha Viajero, you were spot on:

Google "FDEV trading statement". See "operating loss of around £1.5m for the period."

Go on, ffr, you're nearly there, you can do it, give an actual link ...

Evidence? I've seen no announcement to that effect.

Indicated in the newsletter #57 --- "We’re proud of the fantastic game that we released before Christmas, and as we have said we intend to keep growing and developing it. To make this happen we’re expanding the team working on the game so that we can maintain a regular schedule of updates as well as working on the paid expansions"

This thread needs a massive tidy-up.

Post about balance sheets, personal play opinions and so on need spinning off to their own threads, as they have nothing to do with "Elite Dangerous in the Media".

Then, for example, we can turn the "financials" mess into something educational - spend some quality time explaining how to read a balance sheet properly, how to understand the concept of a reporting period, etc.

And your not paying attention either ...

FD have plenty of spare cash flow, have other projects than ED on the go & have invested in the Cobra engine to the point where it can be licensing out if needs be.

They are not going anywhere ...

Evidence that Frontier seems to have started expanding the team:

We’re proud of the fantastic game that we released before Christmas but intend to keep growing and developing it. To make this happen we’re expanding the team working on the game so that we can maintain a regular schedule of updates as well as working on paid expansions.

As soon as dates are firmed up I'll share them. The other big news was expanding the team - we're serious about pushing Elite: Dangerous ever onward. That's pretty big news for me as the Producer! :)

Google "FDEV trading statement". See "operating loss of around £1.5m for the period."

That particular mention is only specific for the interim period 6 months up to 30 Nov 2014, i.e. before game release and before Deferred Revenues can be realized. It is stated in the same text as "Pre release marketing and infrastructure spend" related.

Not sure if you have understood or considered Deferred Revenues yet. For inspiration google "Frontier Development 2014 Annual Report" for the fiscal exercise ending in March 2014. See Deferred Revenue of £2.5m for that last exercise, which is usually carried as a liability until the product ships.

While the latest 2014 annual accounts report shows a net operating loss, Frontier's stated deferred revenues in that same exercise seem to be more than enough to balance the operating loss once the revenues are realized. The market seems to perfectly understand that, and the share price seems quite stable at the moment just below the 250 mark, which is hovering not too far from last years average. The 2015 report (due probably sometime in Q3) should also be interesting in this regard because all those deferred revenues will be now realized. Frontier seems to have done their maths too and based on it they have started hiring additional developers.

That kind of state in 2014 was a very typical one in new ventures that are in the process of launching a new product to market. You need to spend some time first investing capital in developing and sending to market (hence the "technical loss") before you can actually realize any sales from it. While many companies simply live of good will (and cash reserves or debt) in that period, Frontier additionally has the luxury of having a deferred revenue source that can be stated.

But this conversation is old, ffr seems to have an issue with deferred revenues that I hope he goes into and so we can discuss more in detail at some point.

No one knows what will happen going forward in the years to come but as of today, hey, does not look too bad.

Judging by sales figures of pre release versions up to Nov 14 mentioned in the 9 Jan statement, the Deferred Revenues for the period up to Dec 16 release will probbaly be even larger than in the previous exercise. We ll have to wait for the next exercise report to find out the exact figures.

Any other additional deferred revenues, including those in the interim period to Nov 30 2014 and after, following those stated in the annual report will be also presumably realized now in the current exercise since the game has been already released and the product has shipped.

I wrote big post to explain you how you are so wrong, but then I understood that's there's no point.

Did you even bothered to read financial statement? To understand it? I don't think you even know what operational loss means. Or that we are talking about half of financial year, which concluded in November, and most of 14.4M aren't even counted towards it.

Please stoping going around and spreading FUD. If you don't know or don't like game, stick with this POV, but stop spreading lies.
