Congratulations to CMDR 'Alt-F4' at Eravate Nav Beacon if you are reading this!

Rounded of the evening by getting my 60K Bountied butt on over to Eravate where i am one seriously wanted man.

After flying aimlessly around the Nav Beacon, I ended up getting 3 other bounty hungry CMDRs on to me at once. I have a Viper with in my opinion the very optimum load-out available in the game for Bounty Hunting, and of course for griefing, so was relishing smashing yet more CMDR's dreams of avarice and was fully confident in doing so.

Anyhoo, wiped out an Eagle CMDR and a Viper CMDR, with just one Viper CMDR left. Really should have had him in the bag as I still had a few shield cells left but somehow......HE BLEW ME UP!!!

With my destruction, I lost a few hundred K worth of Bounties, not too mention the 200K rebuy cost! I wasn't going to let this CMDR get away with this AND get back to a Eravate station in order to cash in my bounty!!! No Way!!!

Respawned at Ngaliba. FSD - Apoyota - Eravate - Nav Beacon....and there he still was.

Got myself 200m or so behind him as he was grinding down some NPC bounty.

pew pew pew pew pew pew pew........chase zooooom booost chase pew pew pew pew pew pew...........oh oh...what is this......CMDR 'Alt F4's vessel has stopped moving.....he is no longer controlling it...can I destroy him before he kills the task!? 10% Hull, 3% Hull, 0% Hull.....and he's gone! Vanished with not a wake cloud in sight.

So well done to you CMDR Alt F4 (not his actual name, mods) on that super fast bit of CTRL-ALT-DEL, End Task, Ethernet Cable pulling action!!!

As long as this exploit exists. This game sucks.

You really do love your pew-pew!

Just be grateful that the opposing Commander simply lagged/crashed out, disconnected, pulled his cable, his ISP went bust, PSU died, CPU exploded - whatever - you have no way of ever knowing.

If someone was really going to play nasty with you - you'd be whining on your phone to your ISP and wondering why the only webpage you can ever access involves goats. They'd then tell you to phone your PC OEM for software support. They'd then tell you to go buy a new router.

Just be eternally grateful it's only goats.

Be prepared for a bunch of people to come in and tell you he was in the right for exploiting because you kill players in open mode.

Devs need to sort this asap.

I love this quote. It has just enough prophecy to be classified as genius and yet retains a definite, yet abstract, flamey quality.
Ended with sharp instruction, the way it should be.
Quality post mate 9/10

.

It almost sounds like he used the esc menu to save and log out rather than Alt F4.

Using mechanics beyond that available to the player to circumvent events in-game is the very definition of an exploit.

How many players cannot press Alt-F4? Those with physical disabilities perhaps - but the OS can handle that for them with accessability assistance, or there are voice commands. Hardly exploiting when you use inherent features of the OS.

Yeah, I do!

But so does CMDR Alt-F4. Difference is that he actually got to kill me, deprive me of quite a lot of bounty credits, and thanks to his super slick timely Kill Task manoeuvres, he also gets to cash in the bounty on my head. I despise the game for allowing that to happen through such pathetic means.

Honestly who cares? This game isn't focused around pvp. Get over it.

That is just like, your opinion, man!

Without the pVp element to this game, everything else in it would be rendered pointless. I only grind to build up my ship so I can kick the next guy's ass (should I have good reason to do so). I see it this way and so do loads of other CMDRs at the end of the day.

With this Alt-F4 exploit however, being on the negative side of a pVp encounter will always remain voluntary.

I think that it doesn't matter if they are common OS tools, as long as you're using them to do something you cannot do with the game alone.

Awww. Did someone take away your squeaky toy and you couldnt do any pew pew pew? Poor boy. if there was less players like you just running around trying to murder other people, there would be less Alt F4

Indeed you do. However, and please take this in the light it is intended, there are loads of other CMDR's out there who know a lot, lot more about things than you do.

They can have pizzas delivered to your door any time they please. It only costs you real money. They can completely brick your kit. It only costs you real money. They can grab your dropbox and facebook and whatever else you have been careless to not have airgapped. It only costs you real money.

They can take your credit, your cash, disturb your employment and physical relationships, have you arrested or even shot. It's all happened before, and in many cases it has been trivially simple - and for what? Annoying or being annoyed by some other person in a computer game?

Ridiculous but true. Online is nowhere near as anonymous as you may think.

I welcome the guy who wishes to figure out my address and show up at my house with a grudge over a game.

Amen, at least some people on forum seem to get the message. Goats: Dangerous :)

Online can be fairly anonymous if you are smart, but not if you are playing E:D in Open :)
