Why I'm trading in Open

Greetings Commanders,

today I had an interesting encounter with a pirate commander in an ASP... I was on my trade route, hoping to earn a little bit of cash with my trusty Anaconda, when I was interdicted. Confident in the strength of my ship I submitted, turned around deploying my weapons, when he asked me to drop a considerable amount of cargo. Taking a closer look at my scanner, I noticed he was wanted and had a huge bounty on his head. I was well aware, that it was unlikely for me to destroy him, since in due respect to my heavy armament, he kept his distance, so I could not take him out with my opening volley and I was too slow to pursue him, should the tide of the battle turn against him. Just in this moment another ship arrived at the scenery... it was a Cobra, probably another member of the pirate gang. This eased my decision to retreat... so I powered up my frameshift drive and jumped away, before they could inflict any noteworthy damage to my shields. Back to supercruise I immediately jumped to the location, where I stored my well equipped ASP and went back to hunt down the pirates. When I arrived I met another bounty hunter with a Viper, who was after the same pirates, so we decided to work together.

But there was no trace of them. These pirates knew how to not get caught, it seemed. So after a while of fruitless patrolling in the area, I broke off, got back to my trading ship and back to my main business. Before I could finish my first run, I was interdicted again... the same pirate... damn, this guy was good. I submitted, preparing myself for an immediate attack, but no weapon fire... instead he opened a comm channel, asking me to drop some cargo, again. Although I was pretty sure I could get away again without too much trouble, I answered his call, letting him know, I'd submit this time. This pirate deserved his booty, so I jettisoned what he demanded, we wished each other good luck with our business and went our ways.

Encounters like this are the reason why I'm trading in open :) Good pirates are an enrichment for this game.

Why does everyone keep spelling Asp, ASP? It's Asp. Like the snake.

Nevertheless, thank you for sharing your tale of spaceways daring-do. And yes; it's the Commanders who make this game, regardless of their chosen path in life.

(I always submit to interdictions. I think of it as "my weapons check").

Why I'm trading in open:
1: I don't trade around Lave.
2: I don't trade in rares.
3: When I see a hollow square in SC, I hail them, and if I don't get a reply (or indeed, if they're in a ship known to be used for piracy), I give them a wide berth. If after this they still seem to come at me, I jump to an alternate system. As long as the profit I make is more than it would cost me in insurance, in that situation, I win.

I don't need the existence of Player Pirates to justify my decision to play in open or not. I play in open because I play in open. If I played in Solo, it would be the same. I'm doing my thing, the way I want.

Thats why I trade in Open.

I trade in Open. I trade in rares.

I have heavy shields, quad lasers and twin plasma accels.

Do feel free to come calling.

:D

Big, fat disty and big, fat powerplant in my Asp. Not have a problem yet, even dancing around in Conflict Zones. Okay, so I have to sometimes boost off and charge back up for a few seconds, but I've always got boost juice :)

I have been trading in open online but am going to move to solo online.

Not because some say it is easier (I don't find it so), not because I want to hide (there is nothing to hide from), but because it is the same thing and the game runs smoother.

99% of time in open there are no other players - (so solo is the same)
In those rare cases where there is another player, 99% of the time the player is minding his own business and avoids any contact - (so solo is the same)
In those extremely rare cases a player makes contact it is to try to chat, which is immersion breaking (wouldn't actually happen) - (so solo is preferable)

More "dangerous" in open? Rubbish, there is no danger anywhere. What can happen? lose a ship? - minor inconvenience at worst (we all have insurance, right?).

And it is called Elite: Dangerous based on players' ranks - which are a measure of how "dangerous" the player is to the environment - not the other way around.

Have fun, we are all enjoying playing the same game, however we choose to do it.

I also trade in open, it's the only way to trade without having your brain slowly die. Yesterday was my second time i got interdicted by another player since gamma, made things interesting, i realized i will need more practice as my first run was much better than my last where i should have died because i went flying like a ballerina instead of just going fast and jump. I also learned that repairing my complete hull cost nothing like 7k. He better hope i dont see him in a station because he's gonna go splat against the walls and my ship, he wont be the best guy that dies vs my ship physical body lol.

In any case id rather die than give them anything, it's not like we can't afford it. Last time i got out of the station i went sc instead of jumping to another system just so i could troll him a little and see if he would follow, he went at me and as i was completing his loop i engaged the jump to the other system ,he started interdicting as i was finishing, didnt touch anything and poof i was gone lol he didnt follow.
