Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread [See new thread]

Thread Closed: Not open for further replies.
Some players never understand ed is in sequel and with 400billions stars, ed is not build like eve or star citizen.

Mmo in ed is influence'players in system, solo group or open.

You not have more target with one mode.

If you want mmo pvp ed need remove 99.9999% systems.

This cut is in same range when you ask remove switch.

Why i not see a thread : please remove galaxy map keep 100 systems i need more targets ! Lol

You have missed to do something wrong, it's obvious. :p

Darn it, why did I have to research the game and watch hours of YouTube tutorials and Twitch streams?

I want to do something wrong and complain about it... Fd should nerf YouTube and Twitch, they are so over powered !!1!1!!1!

:D

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that I've seen a thread like you said, if I remember right. For real, I can't be surprised from people asking everything, really everything human minds can think. It's incredible. Maybe if someone open a thread were ask to pilot a star bicycle, instead of a ship, I could be surprised.

I'm still waiting for you solo fly boys to actually come up with one viable reason why open mode shouldn't be separate from solo? None of you have put fourth any valid argument except for spewing, "Because I play how I want" or "PvP griefers"

Actually i've posted one reason already in several threads, possibly including this one.

I'll repeat it.

The game is already released with the ability to switch game modes. If they separated now, they would have offlinegate v2, but this time it would be worse, because people would have a stronger legal leg to stand on to demand a refund. I presume FD are not willing to risk that, even should they decide they do want to separate modes completely.

Oh, by the way, it doesn't matter what arguments are put forward in this thread, no matter how vigorously anyone argues for the separation of the game modes or the status quo (na na ne na na - sorry, couldn't resist), FD are not going to say "Oh wow, poster X on the forums said Y. Blimey, we have been stupid. Let's do Z!".

I mean really, everything of value that could have been said in this thread was probably said in the first few pages. Hell, even my post here is pretty worthless.

I think the only reason mods have for not closing the thread is because people keep positing in it, keeping it on the first page, and newcomers will see it, take a look at the 100+ pages of debate, and either join in with nothing new to add (well, probably) or stay well clear... but mainly they will not be starting new threads on the topic where we can all keep going round in circles again until the temperature in the afterlife drops below zero.

/thread :p

EDIT: PS: I think i've just realized why mods are really not closing this thread... i think they want us all to get so sick of discussing it, that the next time a new player joins and starts such a thread that all factions will immediately jump down the posters throat telling them to shut up :D

Yup - the Mods stated that this is the thread that will have all the other threads on the same topic either merged into (as happened to one today) or simply closed with a link to this thread.

If FDEV had gone with a traditional MMO client->server model, I would say open, because then you'd have exactly one connection to the server.

As it is, the only way that happens is in solo mode, so, from a networking/latency performance perspective, for me, solo is better. YMMV.
Open play works "fair", but given the client currently uses blocking I/O for network sync, it can seriously affect gameplay, negatively.

For me, the bug of "one second of freezing every three seconds" is persistent, and only a client exit & reload removes it. Bad in Solo, deadly in Open.

I'm reminded of a story....

5 monkeys are locked in a cage, a banana was hung from the ceiling and a ladder was placed right underneath it.
As predicted, immediately, one of the monkeys would race towards the ladder, to grab the banana. However, as soon as he would start to climb, the researcher would spray the monkey with ice-cold water.
but here's the kicker- In addition, he would also spray the other four monkeys

When a second monkey tried to climb the ladder, the researcher would, again, spray the monkey with ice-cold water, As well as the other four watching monkeys;
This was repeated again and again until they learned their lesson
Climbing equals scary cold water for EVERYONE so No One Climbs the ladder.

Once the 5 monkeys knew the drill, the researcher replaced one of the monkeys with a new inexperienced one. As predicted, the new monkey spots the banana, and goes for the ladder. BUT, the other four monkeys, knowing the drill, jumped on the new monkey and beat him up. The beat up new guy thus Learns- NO going for the ladder and No Banana Period- without even knowing why! and also without ever being sprayed with water!

These actions get repeated with 3 more times, with a new monkey each time and ASTONISHINGLY each new monkey- who had never received the cold-water Spray himself (and didn't even know anything about it), would Join the beating up of the New guy.
When the researcher replaced a third monkey, the same thing happened; likewise for the fourth until, eventually, all the monkeys had been replaced and none of the original ones are left in the cage (that had been sprayed by water).

Again, a new monkey was introduced into the cage. It ran toward the ladder only to get beaten up by the others.

At this point, none of the monkeys in the cage had ever been sprayed with water, they just knew going for the banana was bad and prevented other monkeys from going for it.

Yes, you're right with that, I'm at work now too, and could be great to play elite. But I think that I am more satisfied when, in some hours, I finish to work and I come home, I turn on the PC and continue my journey. Often, the waiting is a good part too.

Addicted much? I know it's a great game but all this talk of I need to play at work, holiday, on a bus, in a car, in the middle of a wedding ceremony sounds like it's going the way of EvE the great RL stealer*

* Yeah 'It's my choice blah blah'

Huh? Sorry, but I have said something like " I wait to come home to play", I prefer this way... Are you sure of what you've written?

Pick your Poison !

FD should allow players to choose weather they want to play Open/Group/Solo....... Once. once you've made your choice,..that is the only way you can play unless you reset. Being able to bounce between the 3 modes is lame.

*psst, Chris. Over here is the quote you are looking for....

There are numerous situations when I wish it's offline game. For example, right now, I'm at work. Can not install, nor connect my laptop.

The topic has been discussed to death. There is also a thread about it. your idea is not that special that it needs its own thread.

Being able to bounce between the modes was known about 2 years ago...

From the Kickstarter;
*And the best part - you can do all this online with your friends, or other "Elite" pilots like yourself, or even alone. The choice is yours...*
*you will be able to control who else you might encounter in your game – perhaps limit it to just your friends? Cooperate on adventures or chase your friends down to get that booty. The game will work in a seamless, lobby-less way, with the ability to rendezvous with friends
*Play it your way*
Your reputation is affected by your personal choices. Play the game your way: dangerous pirate, famous explorer or notorious assassin - the choice is yours to make. Take on missions and affect the world around you, alone or with your friends.*
*You simply play the game, and depending on your configuration (your choice) *
*We have the concept of “groups”. They can be private groups just of your friends or open groups (that form part of the game) based on the play styles people prefer, and the rules in each can be different. Players will begin in the group “All” but can change groups at will,*

All Players Group– Players in this group will be matched with each other as much as possible to ensure as many human players can meet and play together
Private Group – Players in this group will only be matched with other players in the same private group
Solo Group – Players in this group won’t be matched with anyone else ever (effectively a private group with no one else invited)

Also, My personal research on MMO and how it does not mean "social" (It means lots of people connected)

A massively multiplayer online game (also called MMO and MMOG) is a multiplayer video game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet. MMOs usually have at least one persistent world, however some games differ.
