DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

This. Is. Beautiful.

EDTracker is now smoother in-game than it's ever been. Really, really nice. I've been able to remove the head-look deadzone in-game as now with the smoothing turned up (to 85 in my case, but may be tweaked) I don't get the unwanted jittering on screen to my micro head twitches. Really lovely.

Thank you, gentlemen! :D

^^^^^ This!

Just had an E: D session and a fly around in DCS A10-C and it's just gob-smackingly good. Like Summo, I have been able to remove all my deadzones in Opentrack and the movement is fluid with no jitters whatsoever. Only thing was my pitch and roll had become reversed but easily fixed in OT.

Roll on EDTracker Pro wireless ;-)

Amazing! I was a little disappointing with previous builds because I had to have quite aggressive filters in opentrack which left something a little akin to friction and there was a slight bounce if you moved your virtual head more than about 30 degrees with speed. It was still preferable to having to do resets mid combat and worry about misaligned view when looking around and returning to center.

This new 9150 build let me set my filters back to 6050 levels only now it doesn't wander so I don't even need a deadzone and no friction, it's incredibly smooth. Still prefer the older 2.2 opentrack to 2.3. The filter is more tuneable and toggle on/off centers the screen separately to the center button (2.3 pauses with last orientation) which is handy if you want static station menus for easier navigation or OCR of the commodities screen.

Hi,
New here, built a 9150 last week using it with opentrack in Rise of Flight. Works a treat thank you to all involved in development.
I just wanted to ask about the new Gui 4 . Can I just re-flash the 9150 with the new sketch or do I need to wipe it in Gui3 and then go through the new procedure using Gui4?

Hi, Just dive in with GUI4 :) The first step is to click the 'restore factory defaults' button which will stick sensible values into all the settings prior to calibrating the magnetometer.

Any changes after 4.0.0?

v4.0.0 is the latest for the GUI, and is also the latest version of the 9150 firmware, correct. The previous one was DMP4 v1.0.0... yes, it is different, I believe, it's a single sketch that does both calibration and head tracking (so no need for 2 flash phases). 9150 only this; the 6050 code (EDTracker2) remains unaltered at this very point in time.

Okay, so I can't see any of the new sketches in the 4.0 software. Help?

I then put it into dev mode to see if they would show up there. No dice. :(

And again I can't seem to get it calibrated properly, even after like 6 attempts. Will proceed later.

Also, the yaw drift line stays completely flat. Is it supposed to do that?

I've had it on my head when I took the screenshots. When completely stationary, the values are indeed all zeroes.

And no, I'm calibrating the gyro with the tracker attached to the headphone while the headphone rests on its stand.

I'm relatively certain I just haven't hit the right angles yet when doing the magnetometer calibration. Got the test releases to work flawlessly eventually, even if it took me a couple of hours to nail it. This won't be any different.

It's kinda like a new Windows OS. If one computer has it, at least one other computer in my LAN that still has an older Windows starts acting up. This time around Win8.1 reliably kills network discovery of a Win7 machine. Planned obsolescence, methinks ;)

Ah ok, that makes sense - so gyro is fine. The Mag sketch doesn't output any drift data as it isn't used.

Magnetometer readings look uneven - almost like it moved closer to, or further away from, something metallic or magnetic.

Double-post due to update that might otherwise go unnoticed:

There might be an issue with release candidate 4.0.0

This is my current magnetometer calibration:

With release candidate 4.0.0, when I turn my head to the left all is fine, but when I turn my head to the right, the head in the GUI follows movement, then turns left and starts bouncing off an invisible bumper.

With test 4.0.0, everything works just fine:

Welp, I recalibrated it, and turned the smoothness up a bit, and god damn if it isn't smoother than ever before. Well done guys, thank you!
