Purchase Price

Any chance of the price coming down a bit or a sale that will include extra content? I am on the fence on purchasing, and $60 seems steep.

$60 is nothing.

If computer gaming is a hobby you enjoy - then Elite is (in my opinion) worth every single penny. It's not a lot of money really - I'm $670 a rear tyre every three months :D

Mine were almost that much until I switched from Michelin PS2 to Pilot Super Sports. Less money, almost the same grip, much better wear/mileage, and a slightly lower price. I'm sorry - what was this thread about? Oh yes, the price of the game. It really is peanuts compared to the value/fun I derive from it. But then again, I think most developers leave bundles of cash on the table with their me-too pricing strategy. Why every game has to be priced identically is beyond me! One day someone in the gaming industry will have an epiphany and realize that not all games are created equal and therefore they shouldn't all be priced identically. But I digress...

It's still very new, so a sale is unlikely (IMO). I am hoping to see a sale eventually so I can pick up a gift copy for my esposa.

Unlikely to be a sale for a while. The game only just released a little over a month ago.

Maybe there will be a discount to celebrate the release of the first expansion or something.
If not, then there will certainly be one for christmas or the 1st year anniversary when that comes around, but that's still a long time away.

So yeah, best bet is a discount to celebrate some major content release in a few months/half a year.

I think it's pretty keenly priced for a game of such magnitude, with extra free and, eventually, paid for content on the way. But it has to be a personal decision - are you willing to pay X amount for something. How much do you want it, or will you use/enjoy it. Me, I paid £100 for premium beta and it was worth every penny. After all, it's Elite!

Avon Storm 3D X-Ms here, best purchase ever for boots on my old Thunderace and bought at just the right time as there was £30 off of a pair.

I agree its too expensive. I have juts bought the digital download version (£40 in the UK), the price should be much lower for a digital version, no box to make send, no manual to print, no disc to produce, the digital version should be much lower than the actual hardware version IMHO.

Its the same with digital music and ebooks, prices should reflect the lack of manufacturing, handling, packaging, delivery, etc.

If you have enjoyed reading the reviews and watched more than a few videos on Youtube/Twitch, then i say go for it. Best £100 odd pounds I have spent on a game in a long time (i bought in at Beta). I've not really played anything else since October (even with the wipes). It not everyones cup of tea though, so make sure you do read some reviews. The RPS one is pretty accurate: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/01/15/elite-dangerous-review/

Edit: Also there is no ongoing subscription costs.

Yeah £40 is too steep for a downloaded game on the PC. Once you start playing though I think you'll be glad you bought it and if you do like it you will be playing it for a lot longer than most other games so you'll get your money's worth.

In a month of play I feel I have already had my £40 worth. Everything else to come is just jam on top.

Let's put it into every day terms. I can shift £40 in the pub on a Saturday night. I'll still be being blown away by E: D long after the hangover is a distant memory.

Personally I am happily putting a bit extra in (ship skins) on top of the retail price. Seems only reasonable to me; a way of expressing my gratitude for an amazing game.

I paid a lot more for my joystick than I did for the game (and I bought it at premium beta when it was 100UKP not 40) and I bet there's a LOT more man hours and labour went into the game than into the stick.
